I use Mobil 1. Buy it at Walmart in 5 quart jug for about $23. Changing oil often is way more important than what type of oil you use. I usually go 6-8k miles on synthetic.

Chances are the person replying will say the best oil is what's in their engine now. Same applies to oil filters, tires, wax,
air fresheners, etc. General opinion is an API certified full synthetic name brand is the best choice, along with an OEM Motorcraft filter or equivalent. Change intervals are widely debated, Ford usually recommends 5000-7500 miles under "normal" operating conditions regardless of brand, synthetic, blend, or conventional oil types. I disagree with swshawaii. His post was not only sensible and logical, but rational and objective showing no bias. There is no place in an oil discussion thread for that kind of straightforward, civil discourse.

:D

I agree to disagree. I can't handle rejection, that's why I'm not sending you an EF "friends" request. ;)

I use royal purple and have no complaints, obviously. I also ran amsoil flush through my motor before I did an oil change to help break up any build up and sludge that might of been in there. Buy whatever is in your budget but remember a little bit of maintenance can go a long way.

I use Schaeffer Supreme 9000 5w-30 and I have a Harvard Corp Bypass filter on all my vehicles. I change ONLY filters every 10,000 on the full flow filters and 20,000 on the Harvard. I have a witnessed a GM 6.2 diesel do the same on one oil change with 500,000 miles on the engine and oil change. People can doubt this all they want but I have the proof of over the road trucks and other cars that filtering your oil at 1 micron is way better than the OEM setup of 30-40 micron. My oil stays clean longer and is in better shape with 100,000 miles than others at 3-4,000 miles. I have been doing this for a long time and have over 200,000 miles on my impala no troubles and oil samples prove it.

It's more of a personal preference. Using common brands (valvoline, pennzoil, castrol) or premium (mobil, ammsoil, royal purple) synthetic/blend/conventional doesn't really matter as long as you change it regularly. Majority of the problems in this car is caused not by the kind (or brand) of oil being used.

I used Motorcraft synthetic blend before and changed to Castrol. Castrol is clear when fresh and this gives me a visual clue later how bad the oil is.

Synthetic gives you more time between oil changes (a year or 10k miles) but once you go synthetic don't go back to conventional oil. This doesn't mean that since you only change once a year your car is in good shape.

Changing it by yourself 2-3x a year also lets you check the status of your car, if it's burning oil, leaks or other things that needed care of.
