I need to know exactly what the steering extension for the Performance Accessories 3" body lift for both the '95-97 and the '98+ kits look like. I need detailed descriptions or close up pictures of both the male and female ends of both extensions look like. I am half way through my lift and the extension I have isn't gonna work.

PLEASE HELP ASAP!! I cannot go without my Explorer for very long, and it had to be finished by the 16th so I can go to Paragon.

Even if you have to go and take the extension off of your Explorer to take a picture, please do so. I need this infor ASAP!!

Oh yeah, I also need to know where the '95-97 extension is installed at. Does it go at the break in the shaft up near the fire wall or does it go on the bottom of the shaft where it connects to the rack and pinion?

Come on guys, I really need help! Thanks!

The steering extension goes up by the firewall. There is already a bolt linking the part that comes out of the firewall to the long rod that goes down to the steering box. You remove that bolt and put the steering extention over the two ends. The later model extension is basically square inside the end. The earlier model has a key hole in it. I know of someone that used a dremel on the later model extension to use it on his '95. Unfortunately to get a picture of mine, I would have to remove it. I do know that on your '95 you want the steering extension from the '95-'97 Ranger kit. You should be able to order it from PA. That is why I used the Ranger kit # 853 so I didn't have to mess with it. I did have to make my own bumper brackets though. I figured that I could drive around for a while with my bumpers in their original location if I couldn't get to them right away. I couldn't drive around if I lacked the proper steering extension.

John, yeah the extension for the 97 will work on ur truck, what kit did u order? i got the 883 and it worked great, but from 97 down the steering extention is different. are u goin with bigger tires too? let me know how I can help.... also the bumpers... thats a whole other story in its self, the rear has to be custom welded, I went out and bought 2 welders, air tools, basiclly a whole garage of new tools just to work on the truck, and do anything I needed to do.

you need to call Performance Assoc. and tell them you got in a accident and broke your sterring shaft. Tell you you need a new extension AND DO NOT TELL THEM YOU HAVE AN EXPLORER!

Thanks guys for all the help and the emails. I've got the (costly) problem solved.

I ordered a new extension for the '97 kit directly from Performance Accessories. $72.11 Ouch!!
