My opinion is that if you go with an 8", go with Boston Acoustics; if not don't bother.

as if boston accoustics is the only 8" sub manufacturer who can build anything?

All those subs are pieces of ****... don't get em'.

Stay away from Pyle, American Legacy, Sony, Pyramid, Profile, Volfenhag, Audiobahn, Mobile Authority, Thump... they are all garbage flea market crap.

You should also stay away from Kenwood, Lighting Audio.

If you want a sick sick sub right now then hook this sucker up. I have too many subs on my hands at the moment so I don't need any more until next season when I'm getting two 15" Brahma Mk2s and another Crossfire BMF1000d. But I would jump of this opportunity if I need some subs

plenty of name dropping! he's looking for something really cheap and small why respond with this? there are products from virtually all of those manufacturers that will do more than he needs and do it reliably. I know people with volfenhags who will outbump you, and i can virtually guarantee my systems sound quality is better than yours using audiobahn components installed properly and with proper power to them. Before you get too pissed read below

If you want a real company try:

Adire Audio, Resonant Engineering, Elemental Designs, Beyond Audio
All those give you the best value for the dollar.

JL Audio... nice **** but really expensive... a Shiva is $100US and it is about 2/3 the cost of a W3 and it will best it. The W7 is a nice sub but it's not the best sub... the Brahma and x.. have a flatter BL that the W7. People will say that the W7 is the best because they payed like $500+ for it.

Kove Audio makes good **** but a little on the expensive side.

Alpine - amps are cool but they are not reliable. The Type E is garbage. Type S is ok... Type R is probably their best product out but once again you can get a Shiva or EdK and it will best the Type R.

Audiobahn overrates their power handling and sensitivity on their subs. Their subs are a joke with the flame baskets and chrome and a 2" PHAT surround... LOL! You got a 2" PHAT surround and what you get like 12mm of LINEAR EXCURSION... that is gay.

RF amps are gay... they run so hot. Their subs aren't anything to brag about. They are nothing how they used to be five years ago.

BTW back to the topic... about your budget...
Just grab a couple fo RE8s (there is a sale on them right now for about $35 a piece right now. They got 10mm of linear x-max and have 100W RMS so you don't need a lot of amp power. They drop really low in a ported box. Just get two of those and build your own box (which shouldn't cost more that $20 if you have your own tools).

this time you redeem yourself by offering some smart insight and pointing out that alpine isn't anything like what its cracked up to be and by limiting your audiobahn bashing to the subs. i don't agree with your rf amp assessment for all of their amps (but i sure do for the newer ones)

Just go get a DD 9515 and a Concept Amp and call it a day...then go to a show with an explorer that has just clears and billet grille on the exterior and make people wonder why it is there.....(the best is when you turn it on when they are lookin around it and their eyes just shoot out)

i like you man, but why bust in here with this one? we know you got a pretty nice spl set-up but why does this guy care, he wants to know how to spend his spare change on a small system to integrate with stock junk.

now i know i'm sort of adding to the general junk here, but i wish people could just get a straight answer. it used to be that this type of thread would result in a couple of suggestions for cheap subs and maybe a link to a how to for box building so that he could get started on the right track. nowadays it becomes a forum for people to brag about what they got and generally confuse the person with the question. Explorerforum is rapidly going down hill in my opinion adn i'm tired of stepping in to ***** about it.

There is a reason Audiobahn is a flea market company... did you notice how many wholesalers you get online? Yes their high end stuff is good but for the most part their stuff is garbage.

People with Volfenhags can outbump me? Yes... if they are tuned only to do an spl fart. Yes a guy is a CRX with a **** ass 8" bass tube can outbump me outside the vehicle booming out for blocks. Inside the vehicle it's a different story. It's all about the transfer function of the vehicle.

I have heard Thump, Jensen, Volfenfag and whatnot and it is muddy bass with horrible SQ. I am curious if you heard a proper sub... the difference is night and day.

And I did give him some insight about what to get...

the RE8s or if you can get em pick up some TangBand 8's.

i'm just pointing out that some of those brands can do some things real well.

i've heard plenty of proper subs

just so you know i run the abc6003q audoibahn 3-ways with 175 watts per channel rms from an old skool 500.2 rockford amp. the are in fiberglass kickpanesl adn the doors and they sound very, very good.

also, i currently have a low end rf sub set-up (in a great box that makes a lot of spl with good sq) but will soon have the mtx 9500 15s in a better box that will maybe meet your definition of proper. (i know others are better, but i chose mtx because its for a demo vehicle for me as well and i like having a brand i can sell to other people with less $$$ to spend)

You guys got serious issues.

The guy just asked about speakers......the reason ppl come here is because they don't know and need help. No need to rip the guy apart because he has no knowledge of sound products.

I was joking....it was funny to me...i gotta bust cause i can so its like ey yo why not i just thought it was funny

If you are looking for some good bang for your buck try an 8" Kicker L7 off www.etronics.com for $120. It may not win an competitions by itself but it will beat the hell out of Pyramid/Pyle and other lower end stuff. Just remember, it's mainly the power you give your sub that lets it sound good. Check out some other companies there, Audiobahn has a "decent" one for $80 and Eclipse may have one too.

All I have to say being in the electronic repair field. And building systems for over 13 years, is if you do it right any sub and amp combo will work... do your research and pick the right components...

My system is two duel cone Punch 8's driven by two 150 watt JENSON amps and a Panasonic head unit... this system is 9 years old and will still out perform Most systems...

Just do your homework, look at space, air space, impedance, stability, box size, ported, non-ported, band pass, and wire size...

GJ

9 times outta 10 products that sound like ****, are due to **** INSTALLATIONS.....

Jeeze any time anybody asks about a system..... cheap or expensive, 1st system or just a new one...
They get only a few companies rammed down their throat, with no real world experience.....

What I have heard, on a budget....

My first system back in the day was 2 profile 12" baja's off a profile 600 old white amp.... It thumped good, no real good SQ, but all told the setup plus box and wiring was around $100 cheap by my standards.....

The new rockford bass tube: dont remember the name, but its like a HE or HE2 sub powered or unpowered in a black tube.... The one I heard was damn loud for what it was... a 10" in a tube off 300 watts... sounded good too

I have some more ideas if youre interested.....
And BTW JL W7 and CHEAP do not belong in the same thread, check the price, then check the recone price if you blow it, and you'll see what I mean....

I agree with you on this and I know many others that feel the same way. The forum did not use to be like this, and it's getting old quick.

Yup.. Indeed I'm agree with him too. The guy was asking for some "cheap & reliable" stuff. So if you know that just a simply Pioneer brand (not even their Premier line) cheap and reliable enough, well tell him..!! Just don't throw him stuff/other brand that will cost him probably as much as his X price.

My point is if Audiobahn perhaps not your type but that doesn't mean that I wont buy it. You may dislike the brand but if it "cheap and reliable" enough for me then I would buy it. Who knows that their outcome is sounds more than perfect for his ear.

So.. let just be on his shoes and try to give the man the best possible answer. Especially if you know better on stuff like this. That is mean just tell him what is the CHEAP AND RELIABLE bass he can get..!! Simply as that.

cheap and reliable, pretty much my middle names. for my first (current) system i bought a gently used image dynamics v2 10" subwoofer for $65...retail is something like $250. its being pushed by a JBL powerseries BP300.1 amp. this i bought used from yomie on explorerforum for $85. it also retails for around $250. i built my own stealth box and i love the set up. deals can be found...its kind of risky as you dont have any warrenties and stuff but it worked out awesome for me. $500 worth of stuff for $150. i can deal with that.

ok thanks for all your input

i think i'm just gonna go with Pioneer

i was looking at Walmart today

and i liked the prices and equipment

i was looking at the 760w Pioneer amp and the 450 watts 10 inch subs

cause i have 3-chamber box already and it is set for 10's

i will either take the cd-deck out of my car which is a sony xplod and put in my explorer and then buy a new pioneer for my car, or i'll just put a new cd player in the explorer and change it around next year when i pull my car out of storage

I'm looking at a jlaudio stealthbox with a w6 in it... I just want to know if it will sound good and what would you power it with.... Sorry I posted on this thread, I made another thread for my question but haven't gotten as much response as I see here.

ok when you girls are done plaing with your boom boxes(just kidding) you should try the new sony 12" pentagonal sub it has 1200w max and 350W rms
I got a pair for $90 on e-bay. they are loud enough to blow womens clothes off!!!!!!! hehehe

lol

now those are an example of someone being happy with something that is cheap and reliable (maybe)

Listen, my friend has a pair of the AudioBahn subs that are on thezeb website for like $60 with a 1000w rms amp and it sounds good in a .88cu ft box. It hits low and it is loud, but she wanted to compromise SQ for SPL a little, so it doesn't sound as good as it could.

She is switching to some W6V2s or possibly some RE's, but for the time being, she spent $130 to have subs, and they sound good. We put them in my explorer with a long wire and turned on the radio in both cars, and it was extremly loud in the bigger open airspace in my car, it is much much more than I could listen to everyday.

I wouldn't rule out audiobahns... they can sound good... although some are crappy

middle of the line audiobahn subs will sound amazing to most people, and the upper end ones are even better

the people who were saying otherwise on this thread are thinking in terms of much louder higher end systems than anyone really needs for daily driving (even if your a 3 6 mafia bumping baller).
