without lifting, what size A/T tires can fit into the wheel wells stock. its got 255s on it now, and i was kind of hoping to fit 275s (and of course do the TT/shackle to jack it up about 1.5-1.75) what ratio would i be best with though, 275/70 or 275/75?

This is just my experience with my ST. But I would not run 275 tires with just a TT/shackle lift. I had 285's which I know is bigger on my ST before I did the suspension lift and they rubbed bad. I cut my inner fenders up to help but it did nothing. If all you are doing is a TT lift then I would recommend running 265's instead. They still look great as well. The 275 will fit, but you will rub if you do any offroading.

I'm running 275/70s.

The front left rubs at full cut turn making a left turn up an embankment and left rear making a high-speed right turn (when the body/bed shifts). In addition, if off-roading, when going down a steep hill and braking (thus, full body roll forward), you will have light rubbing in the front. For ordinary driving, rubbing is minimal if not nonexistent.

As a whole, the rubbing is extremely minor and no harm has been done to either the ST or the tires. One of the interesting things about Fords is that different individual vehicles seem to respond differently. I may have a little less rubbing due to a stiffer Rancho shock on the four corners, thus keeping the body roll to a minimum.

I run 265/75's with TT/shackles and the rears rub a little on the inside.
Some people run 285/75's with that but also use wheel spacers.
I'm not a fan of spacers.

If you don't want to lift it at all, then get 265/70's. I had that size on the Ranger I had before and they were fine.

i think thats what i'll probably do (265) and just stick with a TT/shackle to level the truck out a bit, and maybe go with spacers just to spread the footprint out a bit. my big thing is not wanting to loose too much handeling and gas mileage out of upgrading the tires and suspension
