So my "stock" 00 explorer had the check engine light come on the other day while driving to work..so i stop by autozone to see if they can get the code..their scanner wont work..so i stop by oriellys and buy a scanner since i could use one anyways..it doesnt work either..it works on other vehicles but not mine..so ive tested the power and ground on the plug..ground seems okay..power is a nogo..i look in the back of the fuse box and the wire thats connected there is not the wire the schematic says should be there and its not the same as the one thats connected to the odb port..can i just run a wire straight from the battery with an inline 10amp fuse straight to the plug and be okay??im not a good electrician but i wouldnt think that would be an issue and wanted to check first..

oh, and thanks for any help!!

Most of the late-model OBD DDL Ports use two 12-Volt Circuits and one Ground Circuit. I think your Gen-2 would only have one 12-Volt Circuit, since it does not have a CAN Network. You could scab-on a 12-Volt Wire with a Scotch-Lock to read your Stored Code as a temporary measure. I would try to diagnosis why the 12-Volt Circuit is Inop.

Just checked the wiring diagram on ebsco and it shows fuse 17 and orange wire to pin 16 of the dlc.

thanks to the both of you..scucci you were right on the money..17 was blown..for some reason owners manual has #5 as being the dlc..

check which other circuits are on that fuse, something is causing it to blow.
