Okay. What's the trick to this...

They only have to move a hair width - not even the thickness of the walls of the power point. If you break 1 tab, the other one should be enough to hold things in place when it goes back together. The fit is really snug.

I found another rear cargo mat. This one is a Lund, I think, and is rubbery enough to fold and ship.

I'm not sure if you meant this for me, but I located an OE bed mat for my ST and I don't really need one for any of my regular Explorers as they have the OE reversible cargo mats, which are sufficient for my needs.

I thought you had said to let you know if I came across one. Maybe not, but it only cost me $2, same as floor mats. It's well worth that just to have around.

I could use a set of decent tan OE front floor mats (i'd even consider grey).
Are they for a regular Explorer or for an ST? As I think about it, my eldest daughter might be interested in the cargo mat for her Mountaineer, which she now uses for hauling dogs and stuff for her garden.

I just meant they sold me the cargo mat for the same price as they charge for floor mats. I don't have any floor mats. And yes, I think your daughter hauling the dogs was why you had interest in a cargo mat earlier.

That's possible. Okay PM me with what you want for the cargo mat and I'll let her know. -Thanks.

Success!
CJ429 - I removed my console top piece, disconnected the wire to the power port and then took two 1/8" Allen wrenches to push into the square holes inside the socket. I managed to get enough pressure on the wrenches and then hold them with my right hand (not easy) while pushing on the socket from inside the console with my left hand. The metal center on the socket moved out about an 1/8" before I lost my grip on the Allen wrenches, but the 1/8" of movement was just enough for me to use my panel tool to get behind the lip of the socket at pull it out all the way.

Once the socket was out the black plastic ring can be removed too, which is important because the socket and electrical plug need to go back in exactly the way they came out. It helps to examine the black plastic ring's inside for this purpose.

I claim 99.9% success because I didn't notice that the cover ring must also go behind the plastic ring in a specific way to have it's "leash" align with the the indent in the side of the console. It's close enough for now and I might be able to rotate the ring if I spray a little WD40 on it first. I sure don't want it to break though. Thanks for your newly gained insight into how that stupid power port comes apart.

Did you see my question about the cargo mat in the above post?

I don't know if enough people need to remove their power port to make your instructions a STICKY, but maybe it should be added to the STICKY list.

I'm not sure I would have thought about aligning the "leash" either, even though I know how it's supposed to be positioned.

The cargo mat has a little oil on it, so I need to clean it and box it to get a handle on what the shipping will be.

100% has been achieved with the help of WD40!

Just let me know what you want for the cargo mat/shipping. No rush and I'm not concerned about the oil.
