Just changed out my thermostat, and thanks to Ford, I did it twice. They gave me the wrong gasket (too loose) and it leaked. I was suspect of this, but it actually came with the thermostat so I figured it would be OK. So I had to resort back to the gasket on the old thermostat. Obviously this is not what I wanted to do, but its not leaking...could there be future problems though or am I just being nervous.

The only problem you could have is it will leak. Did you use any sealant on the old gasket? If so it will probably be ok.

i used to know a guy that said dont even mess with gaskets... he would use black gasket maker from a huge tube he had laying around.... i remember he would do waterpumps and all kinds off stuff with no gaskets at all... he was a crazy old timer but i never had a leak on the pump he replaced on my bII

No, didnt use any sealant. Really the reason is that I didnt want to gunk it up and if I had to do it again be forced with making the job more difficult next time. It seems to seal up fine now, I will just have to watch it and see what happens.

Would suck to have to do it three times over a 2 cent gasket and Ford's poor quality control.
