Only a 14-15 gallon tank?- MY17

I agree that the specs must be overstated by 7 gallons. My manual says tank capacity is 22.5gal. But actual tank size (i.e. maximum I've ever could put in) on an empty tank (i.e. 8 miles to empty) was 16.1 gallons. I have a 2010 Sport Trac.
Just to clarify this is the 11 to 19 board..

There would be no reason to overstate the size of a fuel tank. What some people fail to realize is that there is still gas left in the tank once it reads Empty. Sometimes as much as 1 - 2 gallons. This is referred to as 'Reserve' in most Manuals.
From the 2017 Manual which the quoted member has.
"There is a small reserve left in the tank
when the fuel gauge reaches empty."
