My '96 2wd 4.0 starts and runs smoothly when cold but when warms up over 4-5 min. AND is in gear, stumbles. This is felt as an engine 'miss' and small forward movement stumble when under way. No stumble in park. It is getting only 9MPG too. No fuel smell at tail pipe, no fuel leaks detected by odor and visual inspection. Cleaned MAF,put in new K&N air filter. Ran smoother but stumble returned 1.5 miles into test run. I have new Bosch Plats and wires and 2 new Bosch O2 sensors and Fram fuel filter ready to go in next week but since it runs smoothly except in gear, could it be a tranny problem? I have noted for myself several bad mileage causes and fixes and I will go through each of them. Thanks for this great forum and all the owner/driver help available here. Invaluable.
