Well, it looks like I'm about to convert the last non-Explorer member of my family into an Explorer fan. She's always had Japanese (cough...) sports cars, but she's been driving a clapped out POS V6 '00 Mustang, that belonged to her husband's sister, for the past year. The Mustang's got something the matter with it (I refuse to even look at it) so she borrowed my '00 Mountaineer until she gets another car... After driving the Mounty for a week, she called me today to tell me she loves it! Unfortunately for her, she can't have it, as I got it and fixed it up for her younger sister. So I'm on the hunt again for a clean Gen II. That will make 4. Currently looking at a clean, low mileage '01 EB. It'll have to be a different color though, so I can keep them straight. Already have red, white and blue.

Holy crap another one!? You do some great work man, and always keep the ex's in top shape. Look forward to reading everything you do to this one. The color's hard, you have the 3 best colors ever seen :troops:

That is good and bad! Good for her, bad for us because that is one more person looking for the perfect explorer deal!

Just paint the next one all 3 colors, red white and blue

well the color's the least important thing. i do like the willow green, the one i'm looking at is black/gold (not my favorite color, but...) gotta be a V8, gotta be RWD, interior's gotta be leather - in real good shape (or at least cleanable), would really perfer an EB or Premier with all the toys. other than that, for the right price i can fix whatever else might be wrong with it.

I always really liked black, but that is most likely because mine is black. :D I pretty much did the exact same thing to my mother, she drove mine and loved it, she wants to get rid of her 2WD Grand Cherokee, to get an Eddie Bauer Explorer.

get black. then again mine is black which is why i love the color, it looks fierce!

How come you don't want one with the AWD? Those are easier to find (at least around me) than the RWD 5.0s. Plus, the AWD is simply awesome :D

living in GA, AWD just isn't necessary. on the rare occasion it snows down here, you're better off staying home until it melts. they don't plow or sand the roads very quickly (if at all) and other driver's think they can drive like there isn't any difference. the other reason i don't want the AWD is for the added weight and complexity it adds to the vehicle. RWD is sssooo simple to work on and, as i do my own repairs, that's very important. if i still lived in Connecticut, i'd definitely get the AWD version.

I have a Spruce Green EB, and love it.

as far as AWD, it handles better in the rain then my RWD mounty did.

I'm sure the AWD is better in the rain too, but another negative (from what i've read) is that your tires are supposed to be w/in 1/32nd of an inch, in diameter of each other. So, if you have 3 tires that are 50% worn an need to replace 1 tire you need to buy 4. At $180-$200 each that's a lot of money to waste.

My EB is Wedgewood (?) Blue/Harvest Gold, which i really like, but i've always liked the Spruce Green/Gold. My Mountaineer is Toreador Red/Harvest Gold which is okay. My least fav color is the bright green (maybe that's what Ford calls Willow Green ???).
