I've been chasing my tail all over this site and don't have an Idea if I'm in the right place or not
I am looking at a 2002 Explorer w/5 speed + 4 x 4. It is a one owner truck and looks like it been babied in and out and sounds great. My problem is the milage, (194K) It is a V-6.
I now have a Mazda Navajo and the Engine is about shot.
I'm hoping to get some oppinions o the '02 V-6
Any hepl will be appreciated.
Just in case I am in the wrong part of this site, my e-m is syzygy11@verizon.net

Welcome to the site

It's a 4-door with a manual 5-speed transmission? If so, that's very rare. That being said, explorers of the 2002 model year and high-mile V6's are both red-flags for potential problems.

My advice - if it's a 5-speed stick and the price is OK, go for it! If it turns out to have problems, a clean stick-shift 3rd gen should sell easily as that's the last year for them. If I misunderstood and it's really an automatic, it all depends on the asking price.

He never said anything about it having a manual transmission.

Also, yes the 02 and 03's were more problematic with their transmissions but most of them happen between 80K and 120K miles. The fact that the transmission has made it that far without being replaced or rebuilt is actually a good sign. Once your at 200K miles it doesn't matter what make or model your talking about, that is a lot of miles for any transmission. But if the truck is in good shape and the price is good I say go for it.
