OK guys, right now I have an RF 800.2 amp pushing (2) Punch 12" HX2's in a sealed box. It sounds nice, but I'm always looking to use less space, less speakers and get better sounds. What are your opinions on one 12" L7 in a ported (vented) box using the same amp? Do you think it will be louder? Cleaner? All opinions are welcome.

I'm not really familiar with that amp, but i know several people with the L7's in their vehicles. My friend has a 2001 Montero Limited with 2 12L7's in a sealed box running a MATTS amp, it sounds awesome! My cousin has 1 10L7 in his civic again running a matts amp and it almost sounds louder than the montero with the 12's. I really really love the L7's as long as you get the box built right and have the power, look at the power ratings on your amp and the ohm that it is at (prolly stable at)

ok here i got you some specs.

RF Power 800.2

RMS 200X2
Bridged Power 800X1 peak (4 ohm)

Kicker S12L7 (Dual 4 ohm voice coil)

Power range 75-750 Watts RMS (375 per coil)
Peak 1,500 Watts
Sealed box volume 0.88-2.0 Cubic feet
Ported Box Volume 1.75-3.25 cubic feet

OK, loking at this it seems to me (others might have a different opinion on this) that you will be a lil underpowered running this sub. I'm not saying that you won't be able to run it, you will, but in my tastes you will probably be underpowered. Your amp is only a AB class amp, i would recomend you get a D class amp top run this sup (although not needed). It's all up to you what you do, you could get it now, and get a new amp in the future. Now remember i'm giving you an evaluation based on numbers alone, who knows, it may sound perfect once installed with your amp. The only true test would be to purchase the sub and box and hook it up to see how it sounds. Let us know what you do, this is just my $0.02

Man i think this is the longest reply i have ever made.

I appreciate the long reply and the opinion. My RF is way underrated. The birth sheet states that it does 1075 watts RMS. Seems like this is enough. No? I'm listening...

if you're pushing over 1000 watts rms, you should look into the 15" L7. also dont get the dual 4 ohm, get the dual 2 ohm. then you can wire it @4ohms mono. if you want to save space make a sealed enclosure, if you want higher SPL then build a bigger ported box.

leenjen-

Have you heard anything (positive or negative) about the L7's?

they are really good subwoofers. they aren't that great for sq. the sq doesnt suck, but you cant get a natural sound from a square speaker. they do hit pretty hard, but for the money there are a lot harder hitting subwoofers. overall they are pretty good subs, but i think they are a little overpriced. if you get them, i'm sure you will like them.

almost forgot to add....

you are only doing this to save space, right?
because those HX2s will hit a lot harder, and have better sound quality.

I used to run Punch Powers, 12's... 2 of em... those took up space... I switched to my Eclipse's and saved lots of room, and got a better sounding sub!

I have the same amp as you with a Boston Acoustics Pro Series 12.5 LF 12" sub. You would need 2 to make it sound great, but the subs themselves are awesome. Best of all, they only require a 1.0 cubic foot box. One sub would take up less room, but the sound quality of the Bostons would be much better.
