I promise that this will be my last "stupid thread" of the night. :) My wife and I just found out last week that we'll be having TWINS in 5 months. Good grief! So it's time to trade in my 2005 Infiniti G35 for a big rig. On one hand it bums me out, but on the other hand I've always wanted an excuse for a good size SUV.

I've heard decent things about Ford's NAV system, and I'm curious what you guys think. I don't expect it to be as good as Honda's, but I'm a gadget freak and would love to get it, but only if it works well.

i have no experience with them, or know any one that has. however, there is always the option of adding an after market navigation system. instead of paying $1,500, or w/e they charge for one that is OEM, you can get one for the same price that plays DVD's also. that way you can entertain the two little ones while finding where you need to go. pioneer, kenwood, and eclipse all make good navigation systems IMO. but thats just mr 2 cents for the evening.

I haven't played with the new one in the 06 Explorer's yet, but from what I have read it seems to be a very nice system; Pioneer makes it, DVD Nav, announces the road by name, touch screen, can handle Sirius Satellite, and Bluetooth options (dealer installed), CD changer is in-dash and that can play MP3 files.

The Explorer/Mountaineer/Zepher/500/Montego/Freestyle have the new system, the Lincoln Towncar /LS/ Navigator have a different system (Denso/Pioneer) but that is also a very good one.(I have this one installed in my Explorer) However the system in the Expedition(Viseton) sucks though.

I'm not a big aftermarket person, you lose the steering wheel controls, they almost always end up costing more after installation, if they splice into things and you have electrical problems with your car your dealer will blame the aftermarket stereo. The only things that the aftermarket ones can do that the Ford OEM one can't is play DVD's, and you can get the RES for that also they never are installed as clean looking as an OEM.

If your looking for a loaded Explorer, you might want to go look at a Mountaineer Premier, usually end up costing a few grand cheaper then the Explorer.
