Hello Folk,

I have been fighting with my 94 A4LD for a while now and have finally decided to fix the damn thing rather than keep taping it together. It turns out most of my problems were caused by a broken band fitting which contaminated the fluid with chunks of metal and caused a lot of problems with valves and solenoids and other things that are supposed to slide open and closed or forward and back. I figure I'll save money in tranny fluid alone. Anyhoo, in reading the rebuild diary, folks talk about the Sonnax jig to get out the rear race and washer and I'm wondering if I can't get by w/out? I'm not clear on where the holes are supposed to go, but if I was I think I could make my own little jig or just perservere with sheer pig-headedness. I makes me turrible nervous to drill into any part of the case, and there is still a lot of expensive looking stuff back there. Also in the diary, the wave washer was id'd as a problem and I see sonnax makes a bushing, sprag and washer upgrade for distorted cases, as mine is likely to be after I brutalize it. Any input would be appreciated. :hammer:

I'm ashamed to say that before you posted your kind and sensible reply I copied the picture of the Sonnax jig and went berserk. I now know why the jig is important. I am an idiot. I hope that I'll be OK because the washer and bushing cover that territory and in spite of my best efforts I don't think I've weakend or distorted the case in a big way? I am
