Actually it was 25.39 mpg, on a 300 mile trip over the weekend,
almost all Interstate driving. Cruising speed was 55-70 mph.

This was in my 2000 Sport, listed in my sig. I knew it was getting
good mpg, but hadn't taken any long trips lately to confirm it.

There's nothing special about the Sport; it's well broken-in with
127K miles on the clock, well maintained, with mostly suspension mods.

It does have a Fram Synwash air filter on the intake side, and a
Hooker AeroChamber muffler on the exhaust. The plugs are new
Autolites with new wires. Thermostat is a Stant 180*. Wheels are
lightweight alloys from a Mazda truck, and the tires are BFGs
running 32 psi, and I did top-up the air pressure before the trip.

That's about it. The 2-dr Sports are lighter than the 4-drs, so
that might have something to do with better mileage, as does the
free-flowing intake and exhaust, and lightweight wheel and tire
combo. Nevertheless, these are very simple mods that anyone
can do.

No 'cash for clunkers' handout for me, I'll keep my Explorer Sport,
thank you......(and it's paid for).:)

How many miles did you get on your tank?!?

How many miles did you get on your tank?!?
Don't know, after the 300 mile trip I filled it up and figured the
mileage then. It was still over 1/4 tank at that point, so I'm
guessing it would go about 425 miles on a tank.....?

This was highway driving; in town it gets between 19-21 mpg;
I've checked it several times and it's fairly consistent.
