i have a 95 ford explorer sport xlt automatic transmission 4 wheel drive. my od light flashes i have replaced the shifter that has the od button in it, did not stop the flashing. ever since it has flashed when the suv shifts into second gear sometimes there is a hard shift (sticking in gear). i dont know what the flashing light is effecting and if it is a direct cause of why it does this. is this a electrical or mechanical problem? please help.

A flashing O/D light indicates a stored fault code related to the transmission. Go to Autozone and have your codes read. Post up the numeric codes that you get, and you'll be able to get more information from there.

i had a verry similar problem with the 95 ranger xlt and if i remember correctly my local store said it was my vehicle speed sensor but even after i replaced it shortly afterwards my tranny blew and i had to have it rebuilt. I would recomend taking it to your local autozone they should be able to find the code and tell you what it is

Get the code read. Trying to figure it out based on what was wrong with someone else's tranny when there is a fault specific code available to you is lunacy. DO not throw parts at a problem. As everyone has said...Get the code and we can help you.

I had the same problem with the same hard shift. It is going into safe mode when the OD light is flashing. It should reset after the engine is down for a few hours. My trouble was with the torque converter. It had an undetectable slip but was enough for the computer to recognize. After replacing the torque convertor the problem is gone! Cost me ~$600.
