:feedback:What the :censored: was Ford thinking when they decided to put the overdrive button so far down the shift lever that you have to reach to push it. I know this is far fetched but anybody got a solution to this, i am constantly having to take it out of overdrive due to the fact that i pull a trailer, and i live on top of a mountain, and the road is steep going up, i don't know what the % is but its got to be high.

I'm curious too, I'd like a button or switch closer near me .. it would be nice.

come on no body has tried anything or has the same issue?

It's also the weekend man.. people are out partyin..

I'm not sure I understand the issue. I usually have my hand resting on the shifter anyway so I just push the button quick. When I push it I have my hand verticle on the shifter and push it with my thumb or my ring finger.

Button is in the perfect place for me.

Isn't it on the end of the stalk? I don't mind it there, if I'm towing I only have to hit it once anyway- when I leave.

I have to agree. No Problems here. I came from having a 5-speed car so even though that was 2 years ago once in a while i still put my hand on the shifter. I guess 6 years of 5-speeds will do that to ya.

I have no problem where it is.

No, on the 2006 the shifter is in the center console and the O/D button is at the bottom of the shift handle and to me its in a bad place cause you have to reach to push it. My beef is that the shift lever is so huge that you have to strain your arm into a funky position to actually be able to push the button.:(

Oh- you have the center console shifter... Ok, now I see your dilemma. I guess that would be a pain- I was thinking it was at the end of the column stalk... :)

I looked at this last night while I was driving home. If I rest my arm on the center counsel I can tap the OD button with my thumb no problem. Since the button does not take too much force to activate you may want to just try hitting it with the back of your hand.

I guess we should consider you lucky if such a minuscule thing is your biggest complaint about the vehicle.

Thanks i guess i am lucky:D
Dude i event threw a party the day i bought my EX:party:
I love my Explorer and i wish that my question i have asked about the overdrive button would be answered in a way that involved more courtesy and less sarcasm THANKS:D:D

Well its just an electronic button so you could move it anywhere you wanted I guess. Just have to move the wires somewhere else...

I have an xlt and i don't have the nav so i was thinking about using one of the false button covers next to the 4x4 auto switches, i will have to get a new button so i don't want to remove the switch from the shifter.

Everyday is a party in Snowball... :D

And I don't think it was sarcasm- I think the general thought was that you had the column shifter and that the button isn't in a bad place on the column shift trucks. Once we found out it was a console shifter the tone changed, no? I think we were just misinformed a bit... :)

i was refering to the comment quoted by myself earlyer in the forum, P.S. I would like to say sorry:bounce:

Lets All just be friends AND PARTY!!!:bdrunk::party::dpchug::popcorn::chug:

It was sarcasm but not meant to be mean.. Sorry if it came off that way. I guess it comes down to people being built differently. For me accessing the shift lever and the OD button requires nothing more than a quick move of my fingers from where my arm normally rests. Where you are talking about putting the button (I assume under the HVAC controls) is difficult for me to reach. Have to lean forward in the seat and reach around shifter.

Personally I wish they would have put a column shifter on it and given us some more storage space in the counsel.

Apology Accepted, P.S. i agree with you in saying who decided to first of all put the shifter in the center console, and who decided to have the window wiper/washer controls on the same control arm as the lights?:D
Oh Well guess i have to live with it, after all i have only owned my 06 since January 11 of this year!!
