My buddy has a 96 Explorer and the other day the overdrive light started blinking.

Now when ever he starts the truck it constantly blinks.

Has anyone ever had this happen to them? Does anyone know why this happened and how to fix it?

He was thinking of disconnecting the battery to reset the computer but wanted to make sure before he does that.

Thanks in advance

Ray

Check the tranny fluid level and condition. If you think it needs a fluid flush and filter replacement go ahead and do so. How does the truck drive?

A constantly flashing OD light is usually a sign of bad fluid, bad torque converter, or tranny going out.

My OD light is flashing too. It has happened once before. The gears were shifting hard, especially down shifting. Went to a transmission shop and got a free diagnostic scan. We weren't getting a consistant read, different codes. Anyway, the tech came up with a theory. He told me to use someone elses comupter (brain) and see if it works. So, I got one from a junk yard for 40 bucks and it worked. Four months later or so, it happened again. Went back, then he told me that it might be the brain inside the transmission. I think that I'm going to replace both brains and see what happens. If their's anyone out there that has a better solution, PLEASE let me know. Thanks

i had the exact same problem after my trans was rebuilt like a month ago and it just came on like 3 days ago i had it checked today in fact and it was the TPS (throttle positioning sensor)......about a $20 fix

Where is the TPS located at? Did you have to replace the brain as well? Thanks for your help.
