I'm going crazy with my digital camera. I finally installed and wired an overhead console from a '97 into my '93..

Not including the time to actually find one.. probably about 1-2 hours.. running wire, making wire, etc etc..

i have the same thing in my 91 but i don't have it wired yet still need the sensors and the wiring looks good

Looks good Mark!! I'm glad I don't have to mess with this kind of stuff.

Stephan, how did your sunglasses holder break?? I've had mine ever since early summer when I got my Explorer and it's pretty good. If I remember correctly, the salesperson (my ex-g/f) told me they're warrented for a lifetime. If it breaks, just bring it in and they'll give you a new one.

Did the tans of the two overhead consoles match? I'm thinking about putting one in our '94 but I don't know if they'll match. Also, where did you end up finding one?

It cost me $37 for the console and about $5-$10 for the wiring. I got the console from a junkyard.. they gave me the "rainy day" special.

Looks great Mark!! I hope mine comes out that nice. The thing that scares me about it is cutting into my headliner. I am still scouring the junkyards for my console and wiring. Not having much luck though. Hopefully I will find one soon.

A word of caution Stephen, try and get a 95 or 96 console because they changed the display color in 97 from blue to green. So a 97+ console would have a green display while your radio is blue etc.

Thanks for that information Stephen, I was not aware that they changed the color.
But since I am having so much trouble finding a console, I think I'll take any year I can get (95+) as long as the console is grey. Besides, I think the power door lock and window switches are a funky green color.

The switches are more yellow than this green.

I can certainly understang how you feel though, searching for stuff like that from junkyards can be very frustrating.

What model/year console did you put in your '91, & did you have to modify anything to make it work? I'm going to attempt this if I can find everything I need.
I wonder if the sport is any different than the XLT.

I installed it in my '93, not '91.

They didn't introduce the overhead console until the '93 came out. So unfortunately it won't fit into your '91 (properly that is). I got mine out of a '96 Explorer, but it doesn't matter what year you get it out of.
