2006 Mountaineer Premier
Hello to all,

First post on this forum. Hope you can help me.

I need to remove the overhead console in a 2006 Mountaineer Premier to replace the bulbs in the map lights.

The shop manual does not show how to do this for the configuration in this vehicle. This overhead console does not have a compartment for sunglasses or a garage door opener. In configurations with that opening compartment you can access screws that hold the rear of the console. There are numerous posts in this forum about removing those configurations.

In this vehicle the map lights are at the front of the console, the rear AC/heater controls are in the middle, and the rear panel has the sunroof switch and the Homelink buttons.

I can lower the front of the console by pulling it down off the clips. I cannot figure out how the rear is held in position. If there are screws above the rear panel I cannot figure out to remove that panel to get to them.

Thanks for any help!

It's all held in by clips. You just need to pull down with a little force. I just had mine out a few weeks ago to glue the headliner.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the guidance.

It must take quite a bit more force in the rear than the front. I can get the front loose with what I consider reasonable effort. When I apply force along the sides at the rear the console just flexes and the middle of the rear stays tight against the headliner. I cannot get a pry tool between the middle rear of the console and the headliner.

So maybe I am missing something obvious. I will not have access to the vehicle until later next week so will try again then.

If I am not successful it might help if I post a picture of the console. I just don't want to break anything.

Rusty
