Hello, I recently purchased a 2000 EB V8 with 68k on the clock. I have to say I am very impressed with it overall...great ride and awesome feel, love to drive it. It is in great shape aside from a few little annoying common issues. Rear wiper, heated seats out. I think I have a handle on those but one thing I am not too sure about it the overhead temperature console.

When the engine is cold, the sensor reads fine. When the engine heats up, it goes to 50F and stays there. Anyone seen this before? Not sure if the sensor should be replaced or just cleaned/calibrated? I haven't looked into it too much as of yet. Thanks

i just got a similar prob fixed on my 98 xlt, but the overhead console temp would sit at 140F all the time and i just got the temp sensor from abc auto parts for about $15. (it's a motorcraft part) it's located on the front driver's side. (you can see it from under the front bumper or from the wheelwell) and it's super easy to replace. oh and my ford dealer said $20 just FYI. there are 2 part numbers: DY841 & F87Z-12A647-AA as it appears on the box.

peace.

Wow, Thanks for the info cheaper than I experceted.. I'll run out and grab the parts this afternoon.

it's just one part. i think one of the strings may be a ford specific number. but they are for the same thing. just not sure if it's 2 seperate things or just one long part number. sorry for any confusion.

Put the new sensor on this morning. It still reads the same. Guess that sensor wasn't the culprit.

Is there some other input related to engine temp that could be bad? When I had it at the dealer, they said the module? would need to be replaced...I don't have a user manual (yet) or wiring guide so I am running a bit blind on this one right now.

Does anyone know of a good source for a wiring diagram for the overhead unit. I bought a Haynes manual and it isn't in there. Thanks,

Have you tried calibrating it yet? To do so, press and hold the button in the middle until your sensor reading blinks with weird numbers. Afterwards, press the button until you reach a random number and let it go. It will then re-calibrate. See what type of temp reading your get afterwards.

i tried to do this recalibrate of the temp sensor, but mine will never show blinks with weird numbers, now what, its reading is about 25 degrees off

Wiring for sensor probably runs thru engine compartment; may be something that acts up as temp in engine compartment rises.

Have also seen a ot of posts re problems with solder on circuit board in console - do a search on "overhead console."

does the overhead have to have a particular temp sensor for each console or will any temp sensor work, also i cannt get mine to recalurbrate when i hold in the buttom and wait for the weird numbers they never show up it goes goes through the var and cal and then back to the temp
