please help, overheating and ac doesn't work

hey guys my x has been overheating sometimes, mostly when it is like 100 degrees out or when im going up to the mountion and pushin it real hard, and i noticed that my ac also went out around the sametime that i started having the problem with the overheating can these two things be related, i've looked at some past threads, and have been told to change the themoter and check my radar cap and see what psi it is, is there anything else it could be, also how hard is it to change the themoter, if thats what i need to do

i think i read that somewhere here to.. thermostat isnt hard yo change. you basically drain your coolant, then remove the hose from it and remove 2 bolts holding it on. then reverse to install new one. dont put the new one in backwards.

Check your coolant level first and add any as needed. How old is your radiator cap? I would replace that first since it is cheap and easy. If that doesnt fix it I would check your fan clutch. With the engine hot turn the engine off and turn the fan by hand. If it turns freely you have a bad fan clutch and should replace it. If it turns slightly it should be good. To check the t-stat feel the upper radiator hose when the engine is hot and the hose should be warm/hot which tells you the t-stat is letting the water out back into the radiator.

hey thanks for the help man, i know my levels are ok, i checked all of those, i believe my cap is pretty new, but i don't know if they put the wrong one on, i saw something about wanting a higher psi one or something not quite sure, but i will check the fan and hose tomorrow, are fan clutches expensiveand is it a do it yourself or am i f***** and have to pay an outrageous amount to have the dealership do it.

Neither a thermostat nor a fan clutch is hard, just a pain in the ass, both. I doubt your AC problem is related, fix your cooling problem then come back and we'll try and diagnose the AC problem.

Happy Exploring

Chris

ps. I'm betting a new thermostat may fix thing, do THAT first.
