Overheating problem today. It was REAL gradual, but by the time i got home the needle was almost in the red zone. After i shut it off, it spilled out of the resivor. I checked the fluid and it was not low at all, so i was wondering what the problem could be?? BTW, the last couple of days it has been idleing kind of high (only after driving for a while and engine is warm). I'm not sure if the two are connected, but it did seem a little odd.

Anyhoo, suggestions or help will be GREATLY appreciated!

It's been idling high to try to spin the water pump a bit faster to cool off more.

First things to think about: radiator cap, tstat, flushing coolant. After that: fan, fan clutch, water pump.

Make sure you get the right replacement for it. I bought one at Autozone for $7.99 but when I get home and took out the old one it was half the size. I went back to Autozone and they told me it was the correct part number. I returned it and got the correct one at PepBoys for $24.99.

And oh, if I remember correctly it was only 2 bolts holding it- nothing to it, my man. :)

thanks

Autozone was where i was going to go. Are you saying that they will not have the correct part? Or did the one you went to just screw up? I'll go to Pep Boys if i have to but they are a lot farther away.

What Autozone has listed in their computer system is incorrect. I don't know if this is just this particular store but expect to pay no less than $20. If you could take it out and use another vehicle to take it there, that would be your best bet.

is the thermostat fairly easy to get to? (i hope so!)

It took me about 45 min, There is more to it than the bolts; you goyya move a bunch of hoses ( on a 99 anyway ).

Good luck.....
