This might be addressed somewhere, but I didn't find it so forgive me asking if it's already been dealt with.
I'm looking for a set of decent used 31x10.50-15's for my 98 Explorer that will get me through about a year at least. I picked the size because it's the largest on the sticky list that can be done without a lift. The list doesn't say what the largest P-metric size is that can be used without a lift. I plan on either using the stock rims or possibly find a set with stock size black rims, but either way staying with the stock size rims. I'd like to go a bit larger than the stock 235 tires though.
So, is there a close comparable metric size to a 31x10.50-R15? Or, said differently, what is the largest metric that will fit without a lift on stock rims?
Thanks!

I think you're confusing yourself. You don't need metric sized tires just because you have them now. Tire sizes seem to start out metric and then go to inches as they get larger.

Check out the sizes that BFG AT's come in for a 15" wheel.

Basically, just buy the 31x10.5x15s. Unless of course you don't have 15" wheels and you didn't mention that.

If I missed the part where you're looking for the 31x10.5 equivalent for a 16" wheel, then check out the overall diameter of these sizes.

I have 15" wheels and more or less plan to stay with them, but since I'm looking for a used set of tires I might possibly find some on 16" rims already. My reason for asking about a metric equivalent size was because I noticed a fair number of metric sized tires here on the used market, compared to pretty few of the 31's.
I was just wondering what the maximum known (from experience) metric size would be that I could use on stock rims with no lift.

Found the metric conversion chart on the updated sticky - looks like a few options there
