Well, parent/teacher conferences today. That means I get the day off. Went down to O'reilly's and got some pipe to cut out my resonator and some VHT Nite-Shades to tint the tails! Pics coming when done.

I'm interested were the resonator is could you post a pic of the stock one when your done ? Thanks again

Goodluck, you may want to check into how dark your local law says the tails can be so you don't spend time doing up the tails to have to replace them.

I'm not trying to black out the lights, even though many cars here have them blacked out, just get rid of the brightness of the red. The can I bought is messing up so I have to figure that out, and I didn't have enough time to weld the exhaust piece back on so I am running open cats today.

you just cut from the cats back right? how does it sound with no muffler?

Pretty much how it stands atm is headers, cats, and I cut it about 3" after the y. So of course it sounds pretty bad ass. I am just afraid of blowing out a valve or something.

how do you think it would sound straight piping out all the way out? alot of people have said it sounds like crap

Believe me w&en I tell you it sound@ amazing I would have left it that way but my parents said it was too oud! :/ try it

if i did straight pipe it will there be enough back pressure? has anybody actually done it? any sound clips?

I say if you are unsure, cut out the spark arrestor/resonator thing and leave it without a pipe for a day. The sound quality is not good, but it is EXTREMELY LOUD! I don't know how close that sounds to straights, but it can't be far. As for what I have done, I have cut out the resonator/spark arrestor and put a piece of pipe there, but instead of welding it on, I just put it inside the pipe at the front and bolt it on at the back. What I am thinking about doing, since I love the sound of running an open y, but it does get annoying after time, is to run my flowmaster 40 and where the spark arrestor was put one of the dump tubes, so that I can just put on or take off a metal plate and it will completely change the sound of the truck. As for completely straight piping it, I don't want to mess with the cats and sensors atm.

if i straight piped it i would leave the cat cuz the o2 sensors would go crazy. but what size tubing are you going with kstray? and i thought about doing the 2.5 from the y pipe, the FM 40 then turning it down into a 90 degree dumping it on the ground. ive heard some v8 trucks with that but i dont know what the 4.0 would sound like

the pipe that I put in was 2.5" I am thinking about redoing the entire exhaust with 2.5" or 3.0" but that is only an idea at this point. I definitely recommend leaving the cats alone. The bigger the pipe, the lower the sound. Do not dump it, though, as that just leaves the gas under the car to come up into the car. It has been proven in a test by Caldwell. Something you can do, however, is relocate the tailpipe to in front of the rear tire, but that is up to you. If I can figure out how to post sound clips I have one of my exhaust as it sits. But here are some pics:
Where I cut out the spark arrestor:

Replacement pipe:
(straight end just goes into hole to cats, other end bolts on)

Finished and installed:

Again, by unbolting this pipe, I can remove it in about 5 minutes, and completely change the sound of my car.

Think I figured it out:

Sorry if it sounds terrible, I don't really have a camcorder.

i like the throaty tone but i dont want it deafning! lol i cut the cat off my jeep wrangler and i couldnt even hear the radio. what is everyones suggestion for the 4.0 to give it a beafy v8 sound that isnt ricey?

v8 sound wont happen lol...

ive become a huge fan of my Magnaflow. straight thru design, is very quiet at cruising speed, but roars when you want it too...

Kstrayhorn,

where is your exhaust exiting ?

pic ?

the first pic above, it is exiting out of the left pipe. I do have a removable piece pictured in the second and third pics, which allow it to run all the way out of the tailpipe. When i have that piece removed, I roll with all the windows down and the a/c running.
