Well I just got a flowmaster 50 series with 2.5" piping from the cat back. I drove 30 miles and the CEL came on. Looked under the truck and I noticed one of the sensor wire plugs had the sensor not on it and the wire looped backed into the plug. Is this supposed to be like that? Would more exhaust flow cause this light to come on if it isnt that sensor? The code is reading P0136, bank 1 sensor 2. If somebody knows of the location of this sensor that should help out. Any suggestions on what I should do? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would say reconnect the o2 and get the code cleared and drive it again to see if it comes back on.

Well I looked more closely today and he definately removed one oxygen sensor and looped the wire back into the harness. Is this legal for an exhaust shop to do? I asked him to install the new exhaust from the flange after the cat. For some reason he decided to go 1 foot farther forward and remove that sensor. Can another one be welded on or do I have to get an O2 emulator for that sensor?

You can buy an O2 sensor "bong" and drill/cut a hole in the exhaust after the cast and have it welded in place. Then screw in the O2 (member to use antiseeze on the threads) and clear the codes and drive it. The reason you use antiseeze is if you have to replace it down the road cause it is bad it will come out pretty easy, if not I have seen them destroy the sensor and the bong.

I would take it back to the exhaust shop that did the installation and force them to make the correct repairs.

if they complain, inform them you will be contacting the BBB and state dept of consumer affairs bureau of automotive repair.. and see what they say... it is illegal for an exhaust shop to bypass a part of the emission control system, and jsut because you may or may not have smog checks in your area, its still a federal crime, doesnt matter where you are....

jimabena74 is right. In many states, or regions within a state as in the NYC metro area in NY and NJ, it is against the law for a repair facility to bypass an antipollution device except for testing. States can legally prosecute such repair facilities under the EPA Clean Air Act. If you threaten to have them reported you SHOULD get immediate results.

FYI a bong is something hippies use, I think you meant bung.

Well I went back to the shop today and he completely denied everything. So I am going to the ford dealer tomorrow to get a print out of the exhaust system to show him exactly what he removed. Thanks for all the info
