This vehicle has had a *slight* rough idle at cold startup for some time. It has recently progressed into a really difficult cold startup and thrown the P0171 and P0174 codes. I reset the codes and it did throw them again...but not until another cold startup.
My reason for posting this question after reading numerous threads is that as soon as the engine comes to a steady idle...it has zero problems...which everyone else seems to notice stuttering at stop lights, etc when it's manifold gaskets failing. I have no problems until the next cold morning. Is this likely to be a manifold gasket issue still? It's not having a chance to even get close to warm enough to swell a gasket...and it almost seems more electrical in nature to me.
Replaced: IAC - no change. This was before the CEL...I did it in hopes of improving cold idle, under recommendation of another Ford owner.
I currently have a fuel filter to replace as part of regular maintenance, but I don't expect to see any improvements from it...although it's possible.
I *DO* run a K&N drop in filter....could this have somehow affected my MAF and be causing this problem? I have ran it for 80-100k (with regular cleanings) but I didn't know if the fluid used on the filter could've possible fouled my MAF over the years.
I'm not trying to avoid changing the gaskets for the sake of avoiding them...I'm just not a huge fan of breaking factory seals (especially with potentially fragile plastic parts) unless there is good reason to.
