Pulled a code 401 on an 01 sport.
Autozone indicated an failing egr, possibly plugged with carbon.
A., WHERE is the egr.
B. Can it be cleaned fairly simply?
Thanks

Which motor? SOHC or V8?

Duh... I should have read more carefuly. The EGR Valve is on the driver side of the motor. There will be a metal tube coming off from the botom of the intake plenum that goes to the EGR valve and another tube that goes to the exhaust manafold. There should be a cloth protective covering over the tube going to the exhaust. Its a round disk kinda of thing. That code could also indicate that the sensor that activates the EGR is not working. I dont remember if it is a DPFE sensor or part of the EVR system.

I finally got a new egr valve and installed it. I cleaned out the parts that connected to it as best i could and it fired right up. Went to autozone and had them clear the code. I drove about 10 miles stopped and when i came back and started the vehicle the CEL was back.
I took off the egr cleaned the inside of the inlet going towards the engine and the and also the aluminum piece that is to the left and on top of where the egr is (bolted down on top of the throttle body) and cleaned it( somewhat, i just used a cuetip with some card cleaner...can i disconnect the wiring and spray it out? what is it : ) )
Disonnected the battery to clear, ,again, another 10 miles or so and the CL is back.
Where is this sensor of which you speak?

Excellent, thanks.
Found a part on eBay with the part number of..4U7Z-9J460-AA
notice the Z rather than the E in the part number...the auction owner states it will work.
Any ideas on the difference between the Z and E series?
