hi

I used remote start to start up my 18 Explorer and when I got to the car, the CEL was illuminated. Fortunately I had my BlueDriver scan tool with me. It gave me a P068A error code which when I look that up says that the PCM was de-energized too quickly. Interestingly the ford pass app sent me a notification about a malfunctioning indicator - but they all seem ok. The car drives fine, it starts fine including with both forms of remote start. I cleared the code and the CEL went off and hasn’t come back but it continues to show in BlueDrivers permanent trouble codes they cannot be cleared until the car says it can be cleared.

Thoughts?

According to this site, the error code should be categorized as 'severe'. P068A ECM/PCM Power Relay De-Energized Performance - Too Early

After reading through the entire link's contents, and learning the code might apply to ALL OBD-II (post '96) vehicles, two things came to mind:

"Permanent" (PCM-decided removal) codes were purportedly introduced universally about 2009, and,

I'm glad all my vehicles are older than that! I'm greedy! Love not having difficult and complex problems! imp

Well funny you mention PCM decided codes - the car decided to clear it which as I read it means it says there’s no longer a problem. I just ran a scan and it’s not even in the permanent codes any more. Super weird. I’ll mention it next time I’m in for service - I saved the report in BlueDriver.

As I understand it, permanent codes will only be deleted by the PCM when it decides the appropriate changes have occurred (i.e., acceptably repaired), and evidently in your case that has happened. Lucky. According to the link all sorts of dire things might happen if that code is not eliminated: Forced Engine Idle, perhaps, or even worse! imp
