I don't consider this "body work" so I thought I should put it in this area.
I got a free set of rear speaker screens and because I didn't want to match with the willow green, I painted them black. Now I want to do the front screens black too to match. The front screens don't pop out the same as the rears, correct? Aren't they molded in? Do I need to take the whole door panel off, tape it, and spray away? Or should I risk painting with it on the door? (Don't know how it'll affect the speaker and overspray and drifting paint worries me) Another quick question....what type of fasteners hold the door panel on? Is it push pin style? I forget.

Thanks
Mike

definately take the panels off to spray the screens.

the panel should be held on by 'push pins' around the outside edge as well as a few screws around the door handle area.

You will also have to disconect the window switchs and the door lamp when you get the panel loose from the door.

its not to hard to get them off. Most of it is just common sense so take your time and think through what you are doing if something seems wrong.

.....and it gets easier the more times you do it.

I'll have to go in with my handy plastic plug puller I got from Napa. Any idea of how many pins hold it on? I know there are a couple screws around the handle area. I've searched before, but it takes a lot of reading many times to find what exactly what I want. I just know that I don't want to break anything.

there is probably something like 10 of them. With a offical tool for those things you should be fine. I always just use a screw driver.

best way to know for sure is to take a crack at it and find out.

It is now on my weekend agenda! I while I'm at it, it would be a good time to work on my locks as well. Thanks for the help.

let us know how it goes, i want to do the same thing....pics would be great

I don't think paint overspray will hurt the speakers, my band has a 12" speaker that's had the cone spray painted about 6 times and it still sounds good enough to use on our P.A. system. As long as the paint doesn't jam up your voice coil (spray in the back of the speaker) the cone getting paint on it shouldn't really affect anything...
