Parents mad about mods

Bored, no, I just ask god everynight why I couldn't have been as blessed as you and be born into a rich family, then I hear you complain. Just ticks me off, thats all.

Yeah Life sux then you grow up move out and ask yourself "WTF was I complaining about?!?!?

Ok, looking at this post more and more made me want to tell my story. Here it goes.

I'm 16 and yes, I do have a nice car and for that I am thankful and thank the Lord every night for all that he has blessed me with. I bought my car with my own money (I also pay for insurance, gas, tune-ups, etc.). Some of it I had saved up from working, a small amount was gift money, and then there were disability benefits I received (and still do to this day until I'm 18) from my mother since she had Ovarian cancer since 1999. She would be in the hospital back and forth evry now and then, and was when I got my Explorer. She passed away about a week later (about 3 months ago) after I got it. She always heard me talk about it but never got to see it. But I think she is seeing me from heaven, and not a day goes by that I don't think about that. So yes, I may just be a punk kid, but I have my X for a reason. It may be for a reason that I'm not proud of, and I always hate to think about why I'm getting this money...because of some stupid illness that took her life? But on the bright side, I know she'd want it this way...that's just how the world works sometimes.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Nothing wrong with being a punk kid, just try not to screw up a head start on a nice vehicle. Keep up with it. Change lots of fluids. Buy lots of parts.:D

Yes you're right, we should all be poor white trash driving a rust bucket 1977 Ford pickup with mismatched tires. I don't mean to offend anyone by these statements. It just seems that if someone is "rich" suddenly people are allowed to complain about it. When I was 16 I did not have my own car, but I did drive my mom's Mercedes 300E to school. In college I had a Mercedes 560SL Convertible. I got tons of flak for it. People automatically assumed I was a jerk. "Why is a 21 year old driving a $60,000 car?" My parents are somewhat well off. I make no apologies. My dad worked his ass off to get where he was. It would take the average person three lifetimes to equal the work my dad has done. I really resent people complaining about "spoiled rich kids." Having parents with money does not automatically make you spoiled. His parents (and mine) could spend them money on what they want. I'm sorry for all of you that did not have the same.

So what if psychotic's parents bought him an Explorer. If they have the money, why not. Just becasue he got he car from tehm and didn't have to pay for it himself doesn't make him an less responsible. He's allowed to complain about not being able to mod it. He's allowed to do whatever he wants. I don't think he should, but that's just my opinion. Psychotic stated that he was just venting about the mods.

I'm going to continue what my father did an buy my children nice cars. I'm working hard also. By the time I'm done I will have spent 28 years in school or other wise in an educational environment. Same with my wife. Ask Alec. He's in med school now. It's not easy. Most people think that onece you finish med school you're set. Nope. First of all you have at least $100,000 in student loans. Multiply it by two for me and my wife. Then you spend at least three years working 80 hour weeks earning only $30-35,000 a year. They actually had to pass regulations limiting residents to 80 hours of work a week. My wife once pulled a 130 hour work week. If you work it out by the hour, you'd make much more at McDonalds. At some point when our loans are paid of and we have our own practices we'll make decent money. When I do, I'm going to spend it an buy my kids nice cars.

I'm sure many of you are thinking this is just the ranting of some "whiny rich boy." So be it, I can't change your mind and I don't expect to. I know I was and am fortunate. What I don't need though is anyone complaining about it. Jealousy is a *****, ain't it.

(it took me like an hour to get to posting this thread is LONG)

Yeah, thats exactly how my dad is. My parents are divorced and I live with my dad I'm only 17 and I drive a 2002 Explorer. Called me spoiled , yes I know I am and it doesn't bother me one bit because I mostly all of my friends drive nice cars themselves. One has a 2000 Grand Prix GT, lives with juss his grandpa, works at a car wash making $6.5 + tips & comission. One has a 2002 Ranger Tremor, no job pays for nothing. One has a 2001 Grand Am GT, works 1 day a week at a fish shop, pays for nothing. One has a 2002 Blazer Xtreme, works 2 jobs, pays for everything (car payment, insurance) works at a golf club and with his dad on the weekends.

besides that... I do pay for my own gas and insurance (even tho it is in my dads name , we have the same name tho , im a jr. ,heh) . Hell, if my dad doesn't like what I do, I won't do it. My dad is straight up cool with me , he doesn't ground me or take my keys or anything. I work at red robin, 5 days a week (around 30+ hours a week) making $6/hr + tips (which totals out to around $14-16/hr) and I still ahve money to pay for mods. there are good jobs for kids out there..... i think i have an easy paying job i sit around and prep food putting on the garnishes and stuff but anyways back on the subject if I wanna do something for my truck i talk with my dad first and if he doesn't like it, chances are I won't do it but half the things he doesn't even really notice because he doesn't even have a set of keys to my truck. like I want to get rims for my truck, he won't get me the loan cause I can't wait to save up, but he knows I can make the payments so I talked to my grandma and she's gonna do it. Lowering my truck he doesn't like but his words are "if you can afford it, do it juss remember if u f*ck it up, ur paying for the cost to fix it" and thats pretty much it.

So pretty much I can do whatever I want , but if I mess it up and somethign needs to be fixed I have to suffer with paying for the damage and going without a ride. Which is good IMO cause it makes me learn not to do stupid ****. I think thats why I am so curious when I do things, i look into **** to see what it does ands tuff before I do it so I don't have to pay for damages and go without a ride(i cant live a day without a ride ever since i got my license)

Can't live without a ride?

Guys, when I turned 16 (105,120 hours ago) I asked my parents for a computer. Why? Hell if I know. I didn't have anywhere to go. I didn't date, I didn't go out, I didn't do anything but play with my computer. I turned 19 and decided it was time. My parents sold me their SUV then for $1,000...It was a 1988 S-10 Blazer. It was okay, had 80,000 plus miles on it...But it got me to and from work...when I worked... I married at 21 and had a child at 23.

You wanna know the **** part? My brother...who is 35 still lives at home, drives a 1996 Jeep Cherokee(sp?) 2WD! ha! Doesn't pay for gas, doesn't pay for insurance, doesn't pay for rent, food or anything else. Works about 10 hours a week for my dad and is compensated well I might add. Do I complain? Hell no. Once you've lived on your own (married or not) you appreciate what you have and you work hard to survive. My brother has NO clue what it's like in the 'real world'... My parents are well off also, but that's for them. They've worked hard for what they have. I hope that I can provide the same for my son when he is older. I love my brother, but he just annoys me to no end. Not for the luxury of living free...Just because he doesn't act anywhere near 35. More like 11 or 12...wait..maybe 8 or 9. He has NO, NONE, ZERO respect for mom and dad. Doesn't like them, doesn't want to be around them...but just don't take away the amenities. Should he move out? Why, he's living in a huge house with a walkout basement to a pool. He's got it made. And I feel sorry for him because it is going to be a rude wake-up call when mom and dad retire and sell their home.

I've said this before. PARENTS CAN BE YOUR BEST FRIENDS. What is a friend? A friend is someone who knows ALL about you, but likes you anyway. Brothers and sisters are your future. They are the only ones in your immediate family who will be around when your parents are gone. Don't hold grudges...This leads to lots of crying and saying "I wish I could have told him/her this or that" at the funeral home.

Enjoy your SHORT life here on Earth. Perhaps the life beyond (if there is one) will be spent modifing your always new, always runs great - truck or SUV or SUT or whatever they are now.

Ah, but see there's the rub....he ISNT "allowed" to complain about something he has no real vested interest in....

And you cant count speakers or neon lights as a vested interest.....

Tuneups, oil changes, tires, maybe......the lowering isnt really even a vested interest,.....it serves no purpose other than to make the truck lower.....on the market, that may or may not mean much....

Point is, until he has bought, paid for and insures a vehicle on his own, he has NO IDEAS what its like to be completely responsible for a vehicle.....

The phrase "Why bite the hand that feeds you" comes to mind....

For CRIPES SAKE!! He's got a free of charge 96 Explorer (as I recall)....*WHAT* is he *****in; about????

Then, when folks go and try to give their advice, he gets snotty and says folks "are bored".....

As far as being a spoiled rich kid goes, just cause he has a Explorer doesnt mean his folks are rich, and that really isnt an issue here, or shouldnt be,.,...kids cant help what their parnet's situations are, be it redneck white trash or upscale spoiled rotten......

But the attitude of "Its my car and I should be able to do what I please" is what is at discussion here.....it ISNT his car.he drives it, and it may even be in his name.....but it isnt his car..........Just like two of my cars arent mine yet.....the bank still owns them til I pay them off.when I bust my ass and pay my bills and pay them off they will be mine (right about when they wont be worth much for tradein, by the way....ANOTHER fact of life)..........

Please..........I'd have given my left ******** for an SUV when I was a 16 year old kid.........but now that I am older I am glad I didn;t....

SOmetimes life is like that...........we dont always get what we want, and there is usually a great reason.......

Like the song says....."You cant always get what you want..........but if you try sometimes......you get what you need...oh yeah......" <grin>

You are NO punk kid, mu friend. You have a good attitude and will go far, I wish you the best.

I agree with DocVijay, some people are born into a wealthy family and some aren't unfortunatley. But believe me, I know some of you were posting about Physcotic being spoiled for having a 96' Explorer, he may be but I don't know becasue I don't know him. I agree with him on the part of why his parents will let him lower his truck, but they won't let him take the roof-rack off or plates that just doesn't make sense at all.

If you think he is spoiled for having a 96' Explorer, thats nothing. You should come to where I live, I know theres somebody else on this board from Boca so they know what I'm talking about. It is totally common for kids where I live to have Porsches, Mercedes, Beemers ect. for their FIRST car! You should see my college, I go to Lynn University, it's a private college 5min. from my house. Go into my parking lot and you'll see a Ferrari or 2, Porsche's, and just about every luxury car there is AND THESE ARE STUDENT CARS. I lived at the dorm last year for my freshman year (even though I live 5min away) in my dorm alone the kid next door was 18yrs old w/ an BMW M5, another kid had an Acura Nsx 19yrs old, there was a RennTech Mercedes CLK and Lorinsor E430 and a new CL600, Escalades up the a$$ ect, about 5 Audi S4's (my dorm alone). I met this girl who was 19yrs old pretty cute and she drove a brand new Bentley Arnage (the Red Label, pretty f'n fast, makes our trucks look like an economy car, I have never seen a car guzzle so much, floor it and you can watch the needle drop imedietley) I went out with her to chill a few times and then I wouldn't drive with her anymore becasue we got seriously grilled at every light I guess from 2 kids in that kind of car LOL. Another kid I met has a house on the beach (Las Olas Blvd. if your from Fl) they use when they come down. He was 19 also and pretty cool, really didn't know he had money until you saw his truck. He has a Denali that is seriously jacked up for off roading but also a a Dodge Viper ACR. His family owns the largest Dodge dealership in Kentucky and coal mines. So his dad drove the viper down to the beach house (in his dads words"never drive a viper on a long trip", we had to help him out of the car becasue his back was stiff as hell) so he could use it and the Lexus LS400 and Sebring Convt. that they keep at the house also. The funny thing is that I guess it proves Dodge is crap becasue the only dodge they have is the Viper, even though they own a Dodge dealership hehe! I guess the bad part about my school which I'm sure most of you already know is that it was pretty stuck up. I have never met so many kids that acted like they were the sh@t when most of the time they were plain out dorks just becasue of what they drove.

I know I'm very lucky (even though some of you might flame me) to be born into my family, but my Grandparents worked their ass off to get to where they are. We sold our business to a friend who also was in insurance, but my grandfather owned one of the largest Allstate offices in the US and was one of the top agents (not meaning the size but the customer base) out of the thousands of offices there are. We were rated 4th in the US out of all the insurance companies there are. When we sold it a few years ago he already had it for 35yrs. They are extremley well off yet they are not the types that go around flaunting it. Hell my grandmother still has a 95' Lincoln Town car that was their 1st brand new car, when they could easily afford to have a new Bentley every year. They lived around where we live and actually moved to the intracoastal becasue they could not stand how stuck up and **** the community was where they lived.

They could have easily gotten me any of those cars but I was happy as hell when I got my 94' Explorer and now my mom gave it to my sis and I still drive it, something about those 1st gens. that I love, I took excellent care of it with no problems at all. I didn't have to pay for anything except for gas even though I worked from the end of 9th grand to the 1st half of 12th. I haven't worked scince then becasue they don't want me to as long as I keep my grades up. But thats just how my family is my grandfather loved it when I started modding my truck, he used to tell to rev it every time I went over, their Town Car has a sweet dual exhaust setup (their young for grandparents), but thats just how they are. Almost every time I go over their house my grandfather always talks to me about the market and stocks and everything (I probably know more than most of the brokers LOL) and they've taught me the value of a dollar ever scince I was little. I'm not going to be one of those spoiled a$$ kids who inherit a ton of money than blow it and wonder why their broke, thats what spoiled is to me - getting everything handed to you on a silverspoon yet you have no value for money or respect. I am very thankful for where we are becasue there are a lot of other people who aren't as fortunate. Sorry this was so long got a little of topic, I just kept typing and typ and typ.....

HOLY CRAP, I just saw how much I wrote, sorry.

Sorry about your loss bro, my father passed away when I was 6, he was only 30 - suicide, wish every day he was here.

spoiled??

How is anyone spoiled who gets an older Explorer? It's not like they are Lamborghini LM002's or anything. All I can say is it sounds like kids in Boca Raton have a pretty twisted perception of what is meaningful in this world. Not to mention their parents, who seem to think it's OK for them to drive these expensive cars, but then send them to a school I've never heard of (no offense dude...I'm sure you'll do well, no matter what school). I have friends at Princeton and Boston U who would probably just laugh at this materialistic group you talk about. It's not even that important up here. Truly successful people to me are those that are happy, and happy, successful people usually don't really care what they're seen in. My cousin is filthy rich, and he's as much at home in his old, rusty camaro as he is in his new Hummer, Benz or any of his classics.

Whoa there, I think you misunderstood me, I wasn't talking about how people are spoiled for having an older Explorer or any Explorer. I was talking about people who get handed everything yet have no respect or no value of money, I agree about what you said (most of the kids at my school, especially the girls are very materialistic no offense to any girls on this board) Put it this way I had friends that were very popular but some of the girls wouldn't go out with or chill with them becasue they didn't drive a nice enough car or seem like they had money and vice-versa with a few of the girls I knew, guys wouldn't chill with them becasue of the same thing. Whoa there, I think you misunderstood me I know what you mean about the school though, I met people where I live that don't know about it, even though we have the top hospitality program in the States and one of the top business programs. I met the son of the Hearse family here, really cool kid not snotty or anything and heres a kid whose worth billions, yet the other kids at my school that drive a Ferrari or whatever think there the sh@t, give everyone an attitude just becasue of their car or who they are (even though almost all of them were the biggest dorks/nerds I've ever met) Thats where I was getting at, kids that aren't thankful for what they have, becasue I'm fully thankful for where I am. I wasn't talking about being a spoiled Explorer owner, where'd you get that at? I stuck up for Phsycotic, read the begining.

spoiled

Sorry Saleen, I re-read, and youre right. It's good to see you know what money is worth, and that you aren't so stuck up you have to have a Ferrari or something. Boy, I don't envy anyone trying to get a date at your school. No hard feeling about the school, either. I went to les well known schools too. It's all what you make of it, and of yourself.

As for the original post, I think the kids lucky, but not spoiled or irresponsible. All he wanted to do was some mods. the rest here is waaay of track.

I must be bored too...I've written 3 responses to this thread today, and I have a pile of papers on my desk higher than my step-up on my 97 X.

I don't know where to start...

First off, I am 18 and live in what i'd say a wealthy community. When i turned 16 I got one of my dads company cars...a '93 Ford Explorer (which i loved to death). Now, i had to pay maybe $400 for the car before my dad said okay that's all you have to pay. I did although, pay for insurance, gas, and some of the tune ups. For my 18th birthday i got my moms '96 Limited 5.0 for no charge. The truck is now paid off though...I still do, however pay for insurance and gas.

After reading two pages of this thread it made me realize a few things. (1) Is that I am thankfull of what i have. (2)Is that i realize there is alot of people out there who are not as fortunate, and i pray for them daily. (3) I do respect my parents and their decisions. (4)Is that there are alot of good people in this forum, and that they all have their own opinions...

No problem shcadler, I re-read it also and I can understand how that might of confused you, sorry bout that, I can't believe I wrote that much. It wasn't that it was hard to date, (maybe I just got lucky, hehe) but it was really suprising that some kids at college here would actually do that depending on what you drove or whatever. Oh well, the best part was most of the kids couldn't drive their cars, we were outside one day and the Kid with the M5 would always try to show off, he came in haulen a$$ (guessing he was trying to show off for all of us outside) forgot about our angled speed bumbs, lost control, went head on into a curb, jumped it and nailed a beemer that was parked there. All 4 rims were cracked, front and full right side were messed up big time and he caused about $4,000 of damage to the beemer that was parked there. The bad part was that the girl that owned the beemer that got hit was out of town visiting her family. We told the police what happened and he got screwed big time. He deserved it anyway, little stuck up punk.

I fully agree with you explorer4x493, it's sad there are a lot of unfortunante families out there, I'm truly thankful.

On a good note, a lot of the kids at my school are from up north, a lot of them had 1st gen Explorers that were lifted and decked out for offroading, I'll never forget when I parked next to this kid one day who had a 1st gen explorer lifted and it was completley caked over with mud, and he drove it down like that from Boston. My friend and I were the only ones that didn't have a lifted 1st gen.
