I replaced the e-brake shoes on my '95 XLT and have been trying to get them to work properly. I've done the "adjust until tight, then back off 8 clicks" but after that the e-brake would lock up to the point I'd have to back up to get it to release. So I backed off the adjustment and now I've got little if any e-brake.
Took the rotor off and had someone set the e-brake while I watched the shoe operation and noticed that only the front facing shoe moved; the back facing shoe didn't move at all. I took the brake assembly completely apart, cleaned everything, put it back together and same thing. Maybe this is the way it's supposed to work, but somehow I doubt it.
There must be a "trick to this", but I sure as heck don't know what is is. Anyone have any ideas?
