my e-brake light works in the dash, but when moving slowly i pressed the e-brake pedal all the way down and it didn't seem to do anything at all. and when i drive with it on it feels like it does when it's not on. any ideas?
by the way it's an auto, so i can live without it for now...

Your e-brake pads are probably shot. On the X's with rear disc brakes, they are inside the "tophat" area of the rear disk. They are fairly small and don't hold up very well.....

could be just the cable needs tightening

Possibly, but driving with it on accidently, once, will ruin the parking brake pads. When I bought mine, it didn't work very well. I drove about three miles with it on one day. I was going to rebuild the brakes soon anyway, so I also bought new parking brake pads. They were about $85 at Ford. Good luck,
DonW
