I am admittedly a bit bleary-eyed from reading the manual, forums, etc. today but I have not been able to find anything about parking sensors on the front of the Explorer (Limited, 302a, in my case). The ability must be there because the thing has active park assist.

I want to know how close I am to the front of my garage when I pull in. Some tones would be fine, a picture would be even better. I know BMW has a display showing the signal from each sensor, Ford should be able to do the same as the data is already available....

Does anyone know how to get this work?

Thanks!

What if you turn cruise control on as your pull in the garage? Maybe the adaptive cruise control will warn you as you get too close. =)

"Watch this kids- the car knows how to park itself!"
"Watch this honey- the car knows how to parallel park itself and park in the garage.....DOH!"

I just checked the owners guide and what might work is to wait until the collision warning lights are fully lit and then slam on the brakes. The car has to be going over 5 mph though so it could be tricky getting through the door.

I don't believe it can do what you want. The only solution I can see it to back into the garage. That way you will be able to utilize the rear sensors and camera. Or the tried and true method of placing something on the garage floor, like a short piece of 2X4 or a mark on the wall. There are also other devices you can purchase that I believe use lasers to show you where to stop.

My hunch is that they will add Front Parking Aid on a future model. My HOPE is that Ford will add it as a software update for those of us willing to be first model-year buyers.

Front sensors for the 2011 Explorer are a Ford accessory made by Echomaster. It is available (about $270 uninstalled)

Has anyone added the front sensors ? How much did the dealer charge to install them

like RandyH I would like the sensors in the front when parking in the garage and are considering getting them but was hoping for more information

Just use the old technique of a string with a tennis ball attached to the ceiling.
