2002 Explorer XLT v8
Hello,

I need to replace the power steering pump on my 2002 XLT v8. I want to replace the pump and all of the hoses to make sure the everything is clean so I don't end up with old circulating junk in the new pump. I also think it is easier when you don't have to preserve old worn and rusted parts during dis-assembly.

This is the list I came up with,

ACDELCO 36352642 Power Steering Return Hose From Rack W/Finned Cooler ($36)
ACDELCO 36352281 Power Steering Return Hose Cooler To Reservoir ($45)
SUNSONG 3404530 Power Steering Reservoir Line Hose ($7)
ACDELCO 36357580 Power Steering Pressure Hose From Pump ($20)
ACDELCO 36357580 Power Steering Pressure Hose To Rack ($25)
ACDELCO 36P1578 Power Steering Pump With Pulley ($89 w/core)

This comes to $222 before shipping with $25 back on the pump core. Normally I would use motorcraft parts but only the pump is available from motorcraft. I don't see anywhere at Rockauto where you can get a reservoir.

Is there anything I am missing on this list? Is there anything on the list that I don't really need? Does anyone recommend a different brand for the parts?

Also, does this part set,

CARDONE 3L22283 Rack and Pinion Hydraulic Transfer Tubing Assembly ($56)

replace the tubing that is welded to the rack or is this for something else?

I notice that some steering parts specify right-hand drive or left-hand drive. How would I know which is the correct part for my truck?

Thanks,

If the hoses don't come with them, you definitely want some power steering hose washers.

It turns out I need a new rack and pinion as well. Some of the tubing that is welded to the rack has started to leak.

I am now looking at this parts list,

ACDelco Professional 36R0202 Rack and Pinion Assembly ($228, $100 core)
ACDELCO 36P1578 Power Steering Pump With Pulley ($89, $25 core)
SKP SKTOC050 Power Steering Cooler ($60)
Cardone 3R-231 Power Steering Reservoir ($30)
ACDELCO 36352642 Power Steering Return Hose From Rack W/Finned Cooler ($36)
ACDELCO 36352281 Power Steering Return Hose Cooler To Reservoir ($45)
SUNSONG 3404530 Power Steering Reservoir Line Hose ($7)
ACDELCO 36357580 Power Steering Pressure Hose From Pump ($20)
ACDELCO 36357580 Power Steering Pressure Hose To Rack ($25)
DORMAN 82540 Power Steering Pump Washer ($2)
ACDELCO Professional 45G24035 Rack and Pinion Bushing ($12)

This comes to $417 after the core returns. I would probably do the front tie rod ends as well.

2x ACDELCO Professional 45A0941 Inner tie rod end ($20)
2x ACDELCO Professional 45A0748 Outer tie rod end ($20)

I generally use Motorcraft parts but that would be at least $300 more even if I use AC Delco for the hoses and such. I have generally believed that AC Delco parts are good quality but I would be interested in other opinions. Will I get anything meaningful from spending extra for the OE Motorcraft parts? I really don't want to do this again soon because I used inexpensive parts that end up not lasting.

Does anyone know how much Mercron V I will need to recharge the system?
