I have a '98 xl ... I barely drive 4500 miles a year. i bought 4 new tires about 3 years ago.

the rear passenger one had a slow leak from a nail that was stuck in the tread. I got it patched 5 months ago... some random junk yeard kind of place in brooklyn NY; I wouldn't know where. It was flat as a pancake this morning. Do you re-repair it? Could you really mess that up or is that tire's goose cooked?

Probably is a new hole. Take it to a shop and they should be able to patch it. I've seen some gnarly gashes get patched and be perfectly fine.

As long as the leak is in the tread and not the sidewall, patch away!! If the leak was plugged last time, and the new leak is in the same place, you might have to have the tire dismounted and patched from the inside.

take the tire off the truck, inflate then spray with soapy water and check for bubbles.

Its impossible to know why you have a flat without inspecting the tire, but as mentioned you probably picked up a new hole in the tire somewhere. Since you don't know how to repair it yourself, the best advise is air it up and take it to any tire repair shop. Big city prices for a repair are maybe $40. Small town/rural is generally under $7.

BTW - tires can have a lot of repairs in the tread and be perfectly road safe. The general rule is 4 or 5 patches so long as belts are intact, no holes over 3/16". Sidewall damage is not safe to repair in most circumstances.
