'00 5.0 in an '82 Volvo
I am working up the courage to begin 'tuning' the 4R70W transmission associated with a '00 Explorer 302 V8 installed in an '82 Volvo.

The finished conversion replaces an 82hp Diesel with a 210hp V8 with a lot of low end torque associated with its truck origin. The vehicle now weights nearly a thousand pounds less than the original Explorer configuration and has tires appropriate to original Volvo. It is very easy to smoke the tires, or at least one, from a standing start.

The objective has always been to create a reliable daily driver with no intent at aggressive driving and I am seeking ways to 'tune' the transmission to match that. My first thoughts are to eliminate first gear altogether by adjusting the up shift point to below idle and the downshift point to near 0. Then lowering the up shift points of 3rd and 4th (OD).

I have the TwEECer RT documentation on tuning, a SCT 3015 tuner, recommendations from a custom tuner and an appointment with my SCT tuner to make such changes.

What I would really like to know far better is the data base structure of the files and the usable range of options to a much finer detail. I have some limited experience in programming so I can probably comprehend the file structure.

Can anyone suggest an education program so I can understand this far better than I do at the moment?

Can anyone suggest what NOT to do?
