Hello,

I've never been happy with the brakes on my Ex. Owned her for three years now.

This past quarter I finally had enough and went through the system from front to back replacing the following as they were out of spec.

Pads
Rotors
Master Cyl.
Shoes
Rear Wheel Cyl.
Flushed/Changed Brake Fluid.

Even with all the above work there was still not a substantial improvement in braking performance. I cracked open the manual and the troubleshooting section pointed me at the booster pushrod. Building a measuring jig as described in my manual I found that the booster pushrod was set almost 1/4" short. (Either due to age or improper initial adjustment.

Adjustment was quick and there was a significant increase in braking performance. Pedal travel is reduced and obviously slop is gone. RABS performance is improved however spedo calibration is still required as the rears will slide a bit before the RABS kicks in.

Hope this helps.

humm... wonder if this would help me in the 98? systems should be somewhat the same. I smash on my breaks and the truck just will not stop! i got ART rotors, and this helped a bit. IT just seems i am having a pressure problem! i dont have leaks, just can seem to get enough pressure.

That is a tough call. I'd check your manual for the specs on your year and build a jig. Not sure if mine was out of spec due to old age, use or just was never in spec.

Checking, at least on my 91 was easy. Unbolt the master and slowly pull it back and away. Plenty of flex in my lines. No cracking or bleeding of the lines is required.

Just do not over adjust as you will drag and burn up your brakes.
