Friend of mine sold me this supposedly "mint" 99' Explorer 4.0 OHV. Its an automatic and the first test drive I took ( around a parking lot ) and all seemed okay. Get it on the road, make it about 5 miles down the road and the transmission wouldn't downshift when I stomped on it. Things went downhill from there. Harder and harder shifting, more delayed shifting, and under hard acceleration from a stand still the tranny makes almost as much noise as if the auto 4x4 was constantly engaging ( not quite as loud, but very similar ).
Once I had 40 miles on it, the tranny was so bad that it was almost like it would drop into neutral out of nowhere. I went to the auto parts store and bought lucas tranny treatment ( 24oz white bottle ), and it definitely helped. I'm a delivery guy for a pizza place so having a car is a must. It is somewhat drivable ( to a point ). The transmission slams gears, and almost every one of them. It randomly will kick down a little ( if im cruising at 1600 rpms, it will spike up to 2000, and a couple seconds later back down again )
Any help would be great. I'm pissed to say the least. Let me also had that the car wasnt on the road for about 3 weeks.
