I know there is a few already floating around but I wanted to put a few more out there. At least I found where the marble in can sound was coming from.

That sucks. How many miles?
:(
I am not familiar with that engine but am confused as to why anyone would design rear timing chains on an engine. After all it's not an Italian exotic.

Good luck with it.

189k. I really can't work on it today because of the rain. Wish it would stop.

Worn positioning bolt

It looks like your guide assembly upper positioning bolt is about 1/3 worn thru from the chain hitting. How long has it been rattling? Did the engine still run OK before pulling the valve cover? Did you perform a compression test? Hopefully, your chain didn't slip causing valve damage.

Engine ran perfect, just was loud.

What are your plan's?

Are you going to replace the engine or Fix it?

My rear guide broke and caused the cam to jump timing on that side. I pulled the engine and then found the main and balance shaft guides broken. The left cassette was the only one with no damage.

I'm only saying this in case your going to fix the engine yourself and plan on not doing a complete inspection of pulling the front timing cover.

I will say this. It's probably cheaper to replace the engine , specially, if bent valve are included as in my case. The problem with getting another engine,.. probably with as much or mores miles on it is that you increase the change of also getting an engine with bad chain guides. At least fixing it yourself you know the guides are fresh.

Engine still runs fine. I'm in the middle of replacing the cassette. I'm at the point to remove the engine.

That sucks man. At least you got almost 200k miles out of it, that is really good. Your engine looks especially clean as well! What oil have you been using?

Is that on a 6 cyl or an 8 cyl?

Looks like a 6, but when it comes to engine internals I'm a rookie!

Misc. high mileage oil. Whatever is cheapest or on sale. They have a lot of detergents.
