Find the tensioner and try moving it around... It has a heavy spring and should only move if you place a large socket on it. I now the belt is new but how does it look? I had a buddy's AC compressor start to go in his blazer (bearings... Basically this had the effect of the AC pulley causing an increase drag on the belt which slowly trash it.

Ok belt looks good. I can take a digital picture of this area but what i need to know is this...

1. My Belt is the loose but in good shape on the pulleys.
2. My tentioner is still there BUT as it moves in a clockwise motion it is alrady 100% to the left say at a 9 or 10 o clock on the face of a clock.
3. Will i need a breaker bar to get this off?
4. What size belt should i have? Is it possible they jut put too large a belt on?
5. Can i get a belt on my X in parking lot without any tools except a socket wrench and a screwdriver... i have limited means since i just made it to a friends house before losing my power steering... better than needing a tow though.
6. When i tried to move the tentioner it wiggled a little but i dont yet have a socket to put on it.

Thanks in advance

Brian

On my 1st gen I just need a large socket wrench or breaker bar on the tensioner and I can slip the belt off. It is possible they installed a belt that is too big, does it have any #s on the belt to help id it?

There are 2 sizes of belt, each a half-inch different from another - that half inch difference may very well be the culprit, as the tensioner cannot compemsate that much. (I did that once myself on my 91....)
