My next mod for the stereo is gonna be some C4 if this doesnt get fixed!!!!!!

Ok, I still have the factory head unit. I just added a Clarion ESQ750 Equalizer and a cheap Crunch Amp (i'm a college kid on a budget..)

I ran the power wire through the driver side firewall and on the bottom side of the dash, down the passanger side channel and under the passanger seat. The other wires are run ontop of the trans tunnel (under my console extender and console).

One, I'm gettin awful engine noise, I found one filter that cleans almost all of it up. Gotta pick up another. I have my ground to the bolt under the passanger seat, I think it may be a poor ground, could that affect the engine noise?

Two, My EQ is only a two channel EQ. I spliced in the front left/right speakers and ran speaker wire to the pick up on the EQ. I've respliced them twice, but over half volume the front speakers get a "popping" noise in them. Even when I'm running all 4 speakers, it seems like only the front two pop...... I'm running 16 gauge wire from the amp to the speakers. I also ran it from the back of the head unit to the EQ, could that be causing the problem? I couldnt get to the store so I just ran the 16 gauge anyway... Would using 18 gauge from the back of the head unit to the EQ get rid of it.

I'm so sick of this crap..arggggggggg

Thanks guys.

???????
The seat bolt should be a good ground. Try another ground blocker like you mentioned. Are you running RCAs near the power cables?
Stumped.......
Karl

Check your positives and negatives make sure they are not backwards,I have done that before.

all the negatives/pos seem to be correct. I made sure to use the same side of the speaker wire for every pos and neg. The power cable and RCAs only come close to eachother where they connect at the amp. The RCAs for the sub and the power cable are next to eachother for about 6inches where I ran them under the carpet.

The popping sound in the front speakers has mysteriously gone away...who knows...

I got a screw and sanded a place on the floorboard, gonna try that as my new ground. Now I just need to find a drill on campus.....

Do you have tie down rings on your floor in your cargo area?

Yes, i have those tie down rings in the back, but the amp is under the front pass seat... thats a loooong ground wire..

Sorry i should have read a little better,i have mine in the back using the cargo ring bolt as a ground.

Ok, being there are no drills on campus (imagine that) I went over to Sound Advice and had a self tapping screw put into my floorboard where I had sanded the paint off. My back speakers have no noise filter on them, just the better ground took out probably 95% of the engine noise. There is NO engine noise in the front speakers (which have a filter) and the static sound is no longer audible.

The popping in the speakers is still gone, I even turned up the gain on the amp and cranked it to full volume.

Tomorrow I'll go to Best Buy and pick up one more noise filter and get my wires put up correctly for hopefully the last time. I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed that no new issues arise and I can finally get down to dialing in my Amp,EQ and sub. Thanks for all the help guys!!!!
