'98 Sport 4WD auto, has ~156K miles. Was a daily driver until the summer of 2007, at which point it was relieved. I plan to store it in Fla. so that I can fly there & not have to rent a car. I'm pretty good with most repairs myself, but that will not be as practical once the truck is there(i.e. don't want to fix a car on a vacation). So, I'd like to do as much preventative maintenance as I can upfront.
I have just changed:
Engine oil & filter
Valvebody (fixed 2-3 flare, thanks Central Valvebodies)
nearly all ATF & filters(I previously installed a remote spin on into the cooler line)
Recently changed transfer case oil
I plan to change:
f/r gear oil
Battery
Air filter
Coolant flush & radiator hoses
Serpentine belt
Shocks
Brake fluid flush
PS fluid
I plan to check:
Ball joints
All 4 brakes (unless they're perfect, I plan to do change)
Should I preemptively change the thermostat & water pump, and what else can you folks think of & recommend? I'd like to head of as many common issues off at the pass as possible...
The other thing is, this thing is getting kind of rusty underneath. Before this opportunity came up, I had planned on taking my time POR15'ing the frame & underbody. Unfortunately, I won't get that chance now, but would like to make this thing last as long as possible. I know in some parts of the country oil spray undercoating is common, I was thinking of getting a couple cans of white lithium grease and going to town, giving a thin coat over all the rust in the hopes of creating somewhat of a vapor barrier. I'd choose white lithium over oil since grease is thicker and sprays easily. Thoughts?
