The speedo is "mechanical" and has no electronics whatsoever. The only way that you may have had an issue is if you unplugged it. If you pulled your dash it is unlikely that you unplugged your speedo because that part of the cluster would stay fixed to the dash. It is an odd style plug behind the dash and then is held in by one bolt to your transfer case. It is a black cable about 3/8" in diameter (about the size of a coax cable).
To troubleshoot I would get under the truck, remove it and twist the cable and see if it is free. By spinning the "gear" you should be able to see the needle move slightly on the dash if it is working all the way through, otherwise it's probably time to dig behind the dash.
