Bump, my explorer has this problem also.

Is it the window motor or something else?

I've heard that if you take a rubber mallet and smack the door panel in the area of the motor, you might give it new life. Try it, it work's some of the time

May want to take the door panel off and check it out. I would tap it with a hammer there because you won't touch it if you hit on the outside. Check the wiring between the door and body to make sure a wire didn't get cut. Also, can you move the window up/down with the rear button?

thanks guys for the inputs, havent tried using the rear button, will try and let you know

Cool, I'll have to check that out also.

I know mine doesn't work with the rear button so could it be the motor?

Does anyone have a actual picture of regulator assembly? I heard it was a pain to take out and replace.

this is a common problem on the 02-05. Dirt and gunk build up between the upper window and the rubber. The motor gets some resistance, then trips out. Usually, what I do, is after a pressure car wash, I cycle the windows, and clean that dirt stripe off. I failed to do that recently, and now I have a stuck window.

So are you saying the motor burns out? If it's just the motor, can't you just replace it instead of the whole assembly?

This is pretty common on the Explorers. Rear window gets stuck up due to lack of use and gunk in the track header. I have the LR window on my '02 stuck in up position now but haven't had a chance to look at it yet. Anyway, Ford will sell you just the motor for the rears because there are so many with this problem. TSB 07-16-14 lists part 6L2Z-7823394-AA, Regulator Motor Asy. for 2002-2006 Explorer/Mountaineer. The TSB says 0.4 hrs to change including remove/replace trim panel, so must be pretty easy.

There is an earlier TSB that was superceeded by 07-16-14 that said to tap on the motor with a rubber mallet to try and get it unlocked, then to insert a foam rope into the window header. This must have lead to a lot of returns as they gave it up and started replacing the motor.

If anyone replaces just the motor let us know what you paid and how it goes.
