I have to replace the transmission in my 1992 Ford Explorer XLT, and I was wondering if someone could tell me what the average price is for a rebuilt transmission?

I think I paid $1500.00 canadian for mine this spring .

Thanks! At least I have something to go by....They quoted me $1650.00 to just replace some of the parts that are bad without rebuilding it, and $900 of that was labor. I figured if they were going to charge me that much, then it might be better to go ahead and just get a rebuilt one.

I had mine rebuilt for $1010 and installed.

Thr tough part of this question is "what kind of rebuild?". If all that is replaced are "soft parts" you should expect to pay about $1000 to $1200. If "hard parts" and/or Upgrades are addeded/replaced, the cost should go up. THE A4LD IS NOT USUALLY LONG LIVED WITH "SOFT PARTS" ONLY REBUILDS. Ask about warranty.

Dallasjen, about 6 months ago, I was having mine rebuilt untill the cost of parts was more than a new tranny. For $1595 I got a brand new Ford factory remanufactured tranny with a 3year 30,000 mile warranty. This past Saturday with 4,800 miles on it,(the tranny) my truck caught fire and was totalled :fire: . I bought the truck back for $400 and this week am paying someone $150 to take the tranny out for me, and IT'S FOR SALE. I'm in Garland. PM me.
 3weeks ago I spent $950 on an all new AC system thats melted now, great timing huh.
