Hey guys I diagnosed a loud squeaking noise in my X. It is coming from the pulley you see in the picture. I need to replace it but I don’t know which pulley it is or how to remove it. Is their some special tool required? I un-bolted the 3 screws in it but its not budging. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok i found out it is the power streering pully. now the question is how do you replace it?

it probrally isn't the pully that is squeeling but the pump itself

I second billy's post.
If that pully is binding and squeeking your P.S. pump is toast.
Pretty common on ford products.
May I suggest a power steering cooler upgrade. Not sure if all X's are equipped with one from the factory, but if not it will lengthen the life of your new pump. Mine had one but it was tiny.

Ok thanks for the info. When the car is on I sprayed some WD-40 on the pulley and the squeaking goes away for about 10 - 15 seconds and then starts again.

Also there is no change in the pitch of the squeaking when I turn the wheel, nor do I feel any problems with the steering. The squeak only changes intensity in direct proportion to the throttle.

Do you think it’s still the PS pump or just the pulley?

It'll be the pump. The pulley is one piece with no moving parts so it can't be squeaking. The pump bearings are probably shot, which means you gotta replace the pump.

Pump. Make sure you prime the new one well before starting the engine with it installed... air is a big enemy and will make the pump noisy...
