There seems to be TYC/Hastings/WIX/PERFORMAX/Mann/Fram....etc, and of course Motorcraft.

I have no idea what to buy.
Should I care about quality?
It seems not an important part.

Please recommend a value product...

Good day:)

Some are just a mesh/cellulite filter.. I'd avoid those because they are just going to filter dust. I'd want at minimum a carbon activated or better yet, the Fram had some baking soda and carbon deal to clean the air and the WIX has BioShield® 75 (whatever the hell that is) to help keep out allergens.

other than that, I'd not be too picky about brands.

Do you have to replace it already? The Owner's Guide says to have it inspected with every oil change and to replace it at 20,000 miles or 32,000 kms. I've had my 2011 Limited for 27 months, 4 oil changes, 14,200 kms (8,800 miles) and the cabin air filter hasn't been replaced yet.
The filter IS an important part. It helps protect the climate control components.
Note: A cabin air filter must be installed at all times to prevent foreign
objects from entering the system. Running the system without a filter in
place could result in degradation or damage to the system.

Check out page 165 of the 2013 Owner's Guide.
I personally would stick with the Ford OEM filter.

I changed mine at 40k miles and it wasn't that dirty. I'd just inspect it first before buying a new one. I replaced with a motor craft one from eBay. It was cheap money.

Thank you.
So you recommend Fram & WIX??

Currently I reside in Korea.
The air here is very dirty.
Worse than LA smog.
So little land and so many people and cars....

I think you should stick with the manufacturer's filter. Motorcraft. It was designed to be used with your Explorer and its climate system. That way you would hopefully avoid any warranty issues should they arise.

I bought the Fram Freshbreeze from rock auto a month ago. The same cabin and air filters fit my Taurus as well so I stocked up on both, they still have a mail in rebate going on the frams too. You can't void your warranty by using a non motorcraft filter.

I presume cabin filter will hardly void warranty...

With Korea's air quality Ford Korea recommend every year.
Many Korean change twice a year..:)

The concern is, as I had posted, that the filter protects the climate control system components. If one of those components failed, there may be an argument as to whether it was because of an aftermarket filter not doing its job. Not saying it would happen but you never know. In that case it may void the warranty of that failed part.

Since when did cabin air filters start showing up in cars? I remember when cars didn't have one and it was one less maintenance thing to do. Is it from the dual zone? I wonder why exactly car manufacturers put cabin air filters in. I'm going to go ghetto with it and just whack the dirt off the filter if I see any and just put it back. I didn't know climate control systems were so sensitive now. My old 95 had better cooling and heating and it didn't need a filter. So what gives?

Progress. It's always more complicated. :D:D

Well my 1998 Honda had one so they have had them for a while. It does help... I've seen leaves, dirt, all kinds of crap in them
