please what size "in" for 1999 sohc explorer

i did a search and tallied what people have said
10 - 2.25" inlet size
6- 2.5"
4- 2"
i dont care about what size out, or tip or what ever. Ill figure that out later.
i want to buy an suv performance flowmaster 50, and i want the easiest to install without adding new piping, so what size 'in' should i get to take out my old muffler and put in this new muffler. thanks for the help, im ready to order and a little frusterated after all my searching leading to confusion. So i have a 1999 xlt sohc with stock cats and muffler. please tell me if i need 2 inlet pipes.

You need 2 inlet pipes . The stock system is 2 in and 1 out.

Matt, I just did a Flow 50 series SUV Performance on mine. I watched the guys at the muffler sho do it. They had to break apart the brackets that hold the converter pipes to each other to spread the pipes out about 1/2 inch at the muffler. They also modified the uffler for a flange on one side and clamped the other just like the OEM one was. They also made an adapter to drop back from the 3" outlet to the 2 1/4" OEM tailpipe. Cost $50 for the install, $96 for the muffler itself. It was a Flow 50 SUV performance 2 1/4" DI , 3" SO. Part number 5245553
