Pls help, transmission problems

while you have it out remove the valve "spool" and clean it... make sure it moves easily.... these can be tricky to insert, never force anything... I used the eraser end of a pencil as a "pusher" in reassembly.. definitely if you are this far disassemble the bores Brain was referring to....if you need further advice let us know....

I just wanna let you know, I have found the fault but not the cause. As you suspected it is the TCC solenoid, but not the solenoid itself, when I switch the ignition on the solenoid is activated, even in neutral! Guess it's a controller fault. Anyway, I disconnected the solenoid, reassembled the trans, and now it works agin (with the check engine ligt on), at least I can drive the car a couple of miles to a repair shop.
Thanks again to all of you for your help with this, I can come back with more information about the primary cause later (if anybody is interested), this is beyond my capability to find.

I just thought you might be interested in what you did to "correct" your problem. The solenoid you unhooked (referred to as the TCC solenoid) is acutally an inhibiting solenoid...meaning it can't cause the TC to lock up, but it can prevent it (it is the way the computer can "override" the lockup). This is essentially what you did by unhooking the 12V signal (which it should normally have). You bypassed the computer and overrode the lockup.

If I'm not being clear, maybe this discussion about TCC lockup can help you (it is about the A4LD, but the TCC solenoid's function is the same):

BTW, I would be interested in finding out what caused it. I have a sneaking suspicion that it is/was stuck valves in the "B" bore because the TCC disengaged when you disconnected the 12V signal. Glad to hear you made it to a shop that you are comfortable with.
